You know that moment when you think you've heard every song by your favorite band and get really sad because there's nothing new, and BAM RIGHT OUTTA LEFT FUCKING FIELD A SONG YOUVE NEVER HEARD BEFORE AND YOU GET REALLY GIDDY LIKE YOURE 12 YEARS OLD DISCOVERING THEM AGAIN FOR THE FIRST TIME? Yeah, its something like that.
@DemonLemurNick8 жыл бұрын
absolutely, it feels just like that. And if you look at davey's lyrics like a continuous absract narrative then this song actually fits perfectly after AFI and Blaqk Audio's Burials and Material. He's still alone even tho he tried to pull himself from the inky ether of his mind with Crash Love. He unwillig returned to it on Burials and toyed with it in Material. Listen to To Be Alone then TVFH. It fits in an abstract way. The storm links the two songs and actual a lot of Davey's work. Anayways, done lol. have an awesome sunday. peace ooot

Think of it like this. -So softly spoke the sky, "Tonight the city dies." And then he did confide, "Black flowers bloom in lies." It's the storm, the chaos of our world, or the chaos of the punk music of his past and perhaps life in general on this rock. The storm of existence can creat black flowers; perhaps the black flower may represent him or artists like him throughout the modern ear.

This is my #1 favorite AFI song of all time. It used to be a tie between Affliction and 37mm until I heard this long time hidden gem a couple of years back. Its sound is very ambient, beautiful and winter like; perfectly defining Decemberunderground for what it truly is: a well put-together, frosty masterpiece. This would have made a perfect bonus track on the icy clear vinyl set for Decemberunderground (instead of Fallen Like the Sky). Or even better, it could have been a hidden track that plays after a long silent pause at the end of Endlessly, She Said instead. And has anyone else noticed how the song lasts exactly 3:37 long?

I have been listening to AFI since 1999 and Sing the Sorrow is still their best album artistically. Everyone in the comments is like "Oh he wanted this on Decemberunderground, but instead they put Miss Murder on it", keep in mind all you kids who discovered them through Miss Murder wouldn't even know them if this was the song they put on instead. It's a nice little relaxing track, but by no means is it better than 12/21/Miss Murder, as far as trying to use a song to promote an album.

I’m forever grateful for Miss Murder. If it weren’t for Decemberunderground I would of never discovered my favorite band. Everything from answer that and stay fashionable up until now will always make me cherish this band.
@ManualGynephilia6 жыл бұрын
It's a valid point, but as a fan of AFI since the same time, I can't agree that the ends justify the means, because the popularity of Miss Murder is also what contributed to a push toward mainstream appeal and away from uniqueness. Sure, said popularity means more people can discover their better material, but it also means their good material is limited to the past.
@joncolunga6735 жыл бұрын
@@ManualGynephilia If you watch enough Davey Havok interviews it wasn't their labels or management that forced them in that direction. Something happened to Davey Havok Between 2007-2009 and I'm not quite sure what...but he really went a different direction as far as his persona and all that. So, it was more Davey who changed AFI so dramatically than anyone, since he is the heart and soul of the band...which lets be honest, I agree he had more soul pre Crash Love

I hate not being able to edit blasted comments on KZbin. I was also going to state another bit of lovable Davey personification of tue sky. As always the sky is depicted as uncaring and callous; empty, as God is not there, and if It is it doesn't even register us, and more terrifying still, what if it is and it is toying with ua. XD As for me i have faith that the sky is empty and our true father is our star, Father Sol, it gave mother earth warmth and the cosmos provided the seed. But the sky (God) deatroys the city on a whim (such a meteor could do); It gave but a single soft uttering, one scarely heard statement, "Tonight the city dies."

@WallaWallaGoose8 жыл бұрын
I believe...(did a quick search to verify...) back in 07-08 there was a major confusion/controversy over the titles of two DU era songs that went unreleased at the time that were meant for the EP that was never released. Suicide Romantic, 100 Words, Chair Kicking , Carcinogen Crush, and Ether were, at the very least on that to be released EP This list given to someone at "The Complete AFI Series" boards apparently had a very reliable source, and we can even see copyright info for these songs mind you, matching up with 100 Words and Carcinogen Crush, which we knew at the time were unreleased STS era songs, and as I recall at the time, the rest were unknown songs at the time. Two that stood out were "Chair Kicking" and "Suicide Romantic" once Ether was released for Crash Love in Japan and also featured in some racing game. Jade went onto some message board and went onto the record that the tracklisting was incorrect, and two titles were wrong. He set the record straight saying that Chair Kicking and Suicide Romantic were incorrect, and The View From Here and Fainting Spells were their correct names. There was some speculation whether fan reaction to those titles was cause of a last minute change in their names, or if the band themselves just decided to rename them to something else before officially releasing them. In the end, what we are listening to is Chair Kicking, judging by a line of lyrics in this song. Fainting Spells should be Suicide Romantic. Either way, we have all DU era songs!!! Look at it this way...336 is another name given to the Now the World Picture Disc, and 336 is mainly used by fans, and is not the legal name of the release, Now The World is. The legal name to The View From Here (at least as of 2008) is Chair Kicking, and Fainting Spells is Suicide Romantic. Hopefully since Fainting Spells was released in 09, they have since officially changed the legal name.

The song is pretty cool and very experimental for its time but I agree with their label Miss murder is 100x better! It's one of the best songs of the 2000s It has the perfect fusion between emo, pop punk, post hardcore and mainstream rock It's quintessentially one of the most 2000s sounding song you could find yet it doesn't feel dated I guarantee you if one of these emo rap kids sampled it or covered it it would at least peak in the top 10
