Why? If I can ask... I've plenty of different kinds of MIDI trigger pads, including a full-size MIDI drum kit, and am honestly curious - what is the appeal here? It's a MIDI trigger strip, ok, not sure if I like how short/thin it is, but ok. However, beyond that it's >just< a MIDI trigger strip. We've had those for quite a while now... Or am I missing something?
@mr_floydst2 ай бұрын
@@looneyburgmusic I thought my video made the differences to a normal drumkit pretty clear ... Can you please name a few devices that have the features shown in this video?
@looneyburgmusic2 ай бұрын
@mr_floydst Don't recall comparing this to any drumkit, said it's basically a MIDI controller in strip form instead of using individual pads. Ok. I can understand that some might see the appeal in that, however, this sort of reminds me of the Roli line of MIDI controllers, which I've always thought were solutions in search of a problem. Personally, I'll stick with my AKAI MPD218's, I prefer having the individual programmable pads, versus a single thin strip, but that's just me.

This is very cool. As I've transitioned from playing acoustic drums and percussion to electronic kits, I've discovered that outside of midi keyboards, there is a total lack of straight forward multi pad triggers. I want the form factor of a Roland SPD SX with out all the internal stuff. This Drumbeam is on the right path for sure!
@mr_floydst2 ай бұрын
I don't have any experiences in that particular field, but there are some options here by Alesis, Yamaha, Roland, Nord and Korg. But as you said, they all come with they own sound engines. The drumbeam has the flexible layout the other ones don't have, and it looks way more sleek, though. ;-)

@mr_floydst2 ай бұрын
I think 6 or 7 is quite managable - since making this video, a lot of firmware updates have been released which improved on touch sensitivity and user experience.
@decisionparalysis78562 ай бұрын
@@mr_floydst Yeah I totally get it, I would imagine seeing it and playing it gives it a better perspective and feel. I play drums on pads and manage to hit the wrong pads fairly often, more than I would like, also using small pads, not large or standard. Really interested in this though, the velocity and more authentic drumming really was something. Also the device takes little space, which is a big win. Thank you for the reply XD.
@decisionparalysis78562 ай бұрын
It could really use a foot pedal or two for a kick drum but that is manageable with or without an official component.

@mr_floydst I agree. The title says it all. Extremely versatile when compared to something like Roland SPD SX. Which is really the only option without getting a drum kit. Although there's a new one, I like the keyboard style format more. Hopefully, you will be the first one pointing this out. Thank you for the great response!

Why the studio tour?
@mr_floydst2 ай бұрын
@@danbunge9787 good question! The studio is the work of a lifetime of a certain Ron Lieberton. He built it, he equipped it, he had all the right connections to keep customers coming to this place. He died of cancer two years ago. He knew what was coming so he kind of inherited the studio and lot of his knowledge to X. I guess the very short tour is a moment of respect to this man who seemed to be a very nice guy. :-)

Hi. This is a neat way to streamline an electronic drum kit. However you should consider having additional inputs so users can use all limbs. There's also more potential to manipulate the audio etc if an infrared beam was placed on the ends of the device.. . I think the main disadvantage to it's longevity is that its reliant on the web app to function. Unless the hardware defaults to 4 zones.
@mr_floydstАй бұрын
Hi, thanks for your feedback, I hope afk reads this. I think you're right, there should be a port for foot switches on it, but I also think the web app is a great idea, it will work with whatever will exist in the future. You can save your own presets and defaults for a quick startup.

Hi, it seems the indiegogo campaign will start at 349 credits. There are no connectors for pedals, but it has MIDI in and USB connectors, so there should be a way to get those pedals from third parties. Otherwise, drop them a mail (info@afk-audio.de) ;-)
@BrunodeSouzaLino2 ай бұрын
Main initial concern with this controller is the small surface area. Also, you'd expect a MIDI controller which is USB C only to be bus powered instead of requiring an additional power supply, considering. Also is it even possible to see the zone division when you have the pad mounted with the rubber facing you?
@mr_floydst2 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for watching! This does not need an additional power supply. We used that because we had no cable to connect it to that MODX. This device has LEDs on both sides, so you should be able to see what you're doing. For us, the surface area didn't feel weird (especially when using drum sticks). A person that can play drums will adapt to this quite quickly, I think, but if you have doubts, try it first, perhaps. ;-)

interesting, but what is the advantage of this, compared to e.g. using a roland spdx as midi controller?
