AFKing 9 to 5: Bonfires (Forester Campfires)

I think what I’m appreciating about the campfires is that there always one going bear forestry hotspots, and it feels a lotttt nicer to get some fire making xp, even at reduced rates than it does to just drop all my yew logs. Would it be faster woodcutting to drop them or bank and do fire lines later? Yeah, but I quite like that they’ve more directly tied the two skills together locationally.

I love these cozy campfires. Yes it aint anything near Wintertodt in terms of xp/hr, (nor do you get any of the drops), but the ability to afk so easily is such a gain. You only have to interact every minute, and if you get distracted by something you're completely safe, only sacrificing xp/hr. To be blunt, any experience I'm getting is better than the near zero I'd get at work, where I cant afford to pay enough attention for Wintertodt/firelines. In a series called AFKing 9 to 5, I feel you're undervaluing the AFK part.

This is right up my alley. I work from home for 8 hours and afk fishing to keep up the xp currently.

in short, campfires are for non wintertodt enjoyers. i was going to use these for 99, but they took so long to get out that i just did fire lines any way. but this will be my go to way in the future for sure! the 33% xp rate is pretty good, and better than the original 25% proposed. i can understand the rate not being maybe half and compete with wintertodt xp rates, especially with the recent afk mining xp hot topic these past few months. over all a pretty decent and chill firemaking method!

Confused by the verdict at the end considering it's a vid about AFK. I work 12hr shifts and want the game to play itself for me; cost is irrelevant so long as its AFK and bonfires are exponentially more AFK than regular FM or wintertodt. It'd still be worth it if the experience rates were even less than they already are for that reason alone.

They really went for a severe exp-per-log penalty on the super afk method, but I'm okay with it. I would rather have this in the game as an option but only when you want full afk, than to have this become RS3 bonfires that were better exp, more afk and completely replaced every fm training option when they were introduced. It might need some tweaking on a second pass but I appreciate they're sticking to the "low effort, low reward / high intensity, higher reward" design space. Probably won't be doing much if any bonfire burning myself unless I'm desperate for fm exp while also being super afk.

Maple logs are dirt cheap and being pretty much the most afk activity, it's basically free xp while doing something on the side.

Free xp? You can get paid for your XP doing something else. Fishing, shooting stars, woodcutting and cooking are all better time spent, and most have longer afk times than this. Even fletching and crafting slowly (match the firemaking time per inventory) would be better. NMZ would be better but not profit. So if you have 99 attack, strength, def, ranged, magic, crafting, fletching, mining, fishing, cooking, and woodcutting, then sure.

@@mario50000 if he was looking to get paid he would do content that pays him, the consensus with fire making was never to make gp. If you’re actively looking to get paid fire making in general should not be your go to. There are other skills that are more afk and make some gp that however does not make this new fire making method obsolete or bad. This new method of fire making was intended to be afk, no real reason to compare it to other skills/activities in the game.

It's perfect, afk to my hearts content and use some of these logs I'm never going to fletch :) think this is going to be cracked for no-banking redwoods too, you afk tree and afk burn Will be surprised if redwoods and maybe maples don't bump up a few gp in price, too convenient of a method to turn down ❤

If you put your screenright you can easily just click on the campfire whilst still in the bank

i hope they get rebalanced to have at least some advantage over other methods... either: -make them give less xp per log but let you feed in logs every 1-2 ticks, for faster xp/h at the cost of more xp/gp or -more xp per log but slower feed time, for better gp/xp but less xp/h. currently i feel like there's never a reason to do bonfires. wintertodt is already somewhat afk, too.

The exp rates could use a buff in my opinion. I think 50% would be fair. Thats still going to end up well below wintertodt but makes it a much more viable option for getting 99. Its not like they're devaluing anything, and even then it would still cost 2x as much compared to fire lines.

They took out what extra things bonfires (campfires) were going to add but kept the exp rates the same and said "Yep, good enough!" About as usrful as a chocolate teapot, which is ironic because they took the tea out. 😂 they should have buffed the rates slightly to an alteady useless skill made redundant by adding the home tele so you never had to cook where you stood, you could always run back to lumbridge castle range to do your cooking.

For my playstyle I prefer it, making firelines suck. Same deal with fletching, it might be 95 hours and 100k magics for 85-99 but i pay zero attention

ok wait so oaks are 60xp. but bonfire oaks are only 20??? yeah it might only seem worth it if they update it or something. otherwise i see it only as a handy thing if u really are afk. like my main is questing so i cant really pay full attention. i decided to level my alts up just to 50 for now. if i get them member eventually so if u do a full invent afk its 580xp for oak. and 1620 manually. so u lose over double the exp. but its only like 4 clicks instead of 50+ clicks

While I think we can all agree that when bonfires were introduced to OSRS we were glad they didnt have the buffs RS3 bonfires did, and most of us can agree the xp per log rate had to be nerfed, I personally feel like it should have only been nerfed to burn xp is the same as cutting xp, or at least have been upgradeable through tasks to the same xp as cutting xp. This would make the method viable for Irons who right now, as much as its not afk, fire lines are better xp per hour.

​@cheeselovernation the bonfire should at least give other buffs besides afk exp that isnt worth doing but i like forestry otherwise. Haven't tried the 2h axes yet but I have heard they got rid of the run energy system so im excited for that :)
