GWS is actually one of the better ones imo. Richmond should always be number 1. It’s the best, and catchiest. Eagles are kind of hard to compare, because theirs sounds sooo much different!

One of the best theme songs was Swan Districts which was recorded in the 70s. In the height of disco its an uptempo modern song of the time. Basically a fast version of "Baby Face" with a full band and disco effects. Sounded sensational 25 years ago... "we're alright, we are the mighty fighting black and whites...".

I am completely new to AFL, I couldn't sleep one night (UK time) and next morning it was Bulldogs vs Lions, and although Lions won quite well I was hoping Bulldogs would make the comeback, so now they're my guys. Also after hearing the songs glad I made a good choice. There are some other bangers, and surprised Carlton is ranked so lowly but tbh for me it sounds like an old UK WW2 song so maybe I've got some bias in that department, I like it though.

Good list. Tigers is definitely top 2. Bulldogs is great not sure about top spot though. I think the crows should have been right up there too. I think the original eagles from 80s is great but agree with you the new one sounds like song as it’s Birds of Tokyo singing it.

The problem with the Dockers is that they play all this heavy rock before the game with guitarists doing solos from the roof. Then you get their folksy, poorly produced, Freo way to go. The contrast is so significant and shocking, it totally ruins it.

That's what they did A lot of classic footy themes are based off of older songs - E.g. Western Bulldog's theme uses the melody of "Sons of the Sea," an old British naval song, St Kilda's theme uses the melody of "When the Saints Go Marching In" and the Brisbane Lions even use the tune of the French national Anthem!
