I don’t get why Gaff is the guy getting sympathy, accolades and ovations and anyone else (AFL or otherwise) is getting a smidge of blame. You either think smacking a guy in the jaw is right or it’s wrong, and that people are responsible for their actions or not.
@timmywilson6 жыл бұрын
Your right, this isn't up to the players alone but the AFL and the players to sort out. No action and well it's inevitable that someone will end up in a wheelchair, or have brain damage, worst killed. Who will be sued ? AFL are responsible for the safety of players when on the field. The clubs, they'll get sued. That's the end of the game, clubs wont get insured, nor the AFL if they can't provide adequate protection of players. Players, well yes there has to be some self control. But well like any human some are better than others and well when the adrenaline is pumping, logic sometimes goes out of the window. But if the player knows he will face a years ban, he'll not throw a punch again.

If ever there was an incident that highlighted the need for a 'red card' send off rule in the AFL, this was it. That a player can do something like this and stay on the field is ridiculous and does not happen in any other football code. Whether Gaff meant to hit him in the face or not is irrelevant. Additionally, this also sparked continual flare ups between the teams for the rest of the game which took away from the spectacle and these could potentially have been avoided if he had been sent off immediately following the incident. Don't worry so much about all the other tweaking rule changes currently under consideration, the AFL needs to rapidly take action after this and get into line with all other codes.
@RexAlfieLee6 жыл бұрын
AFL is also culpable for not controlling the interference of good players by other players. Whilst the player still deserves the 7 or more matches, the AFL needs to stop great players constant & continuous interference by 1 or more others. Barry Hall's punch on Staker is a prime example. He finally drops his bundle after ongoing pushing around by several players. The AFL allows the aggression to build by not giving frees when there is interference away from the ball. They need to fix this...

Gaff is a good guy and I don’t think he meant to break his jaw but he did intentionally punch him and he needs to be responsible for his actions. Jeremy Cameron got 5 weeks for protecting himself so I believe gaff should get a lot longer consequence as it was intentional and did cause a lot of damage to an 18 year old who has a long career ahead of him.

Compare this action to any professional sport that is highly watched. Say NBA, a hit like that not only are you looking at being done for a very very long time but your reputation with the club is in dispute. But this only occurs in the AFL due to the slap on the wrist punishment really. Like Jimmy says, the punching motion rules need to be addressed for next season.

Sorry, this is a criminal act. Players when joining the field of play do not give up their rights to be protected and to be physically assaulted. This matter needs to be taken up by the police. Physical violence resulting in someone requiring hospitalisation and surgery is criminal. AFL is cupable and opening itself up to being sued should a player ever be killed by effectively "king hit". Someone who throws a punch like that isn't a decent person and because he's not done it before doesn't matter. You are all talking complete nonsense. The coach should have told this guy to go to the dressing rooms. A years ban is required here. Send a message that violence and assaulting players isn't what AFL is about.

Everyone, and rightfully so, talks about the punch.But they neglect to mention that Brayshaw instigated it. The ball was nowhere near either them, Gaff is just minding his own business and Brayshaw comes up and starts harassing him. Not excusing what Gaff did, but If Brayshaw had just left Gaff alone and gone to the next contest, like he should have, he would never have been hit and nothing would've happened. That being said, Gaff will get a lengthy suspension. No doubt about it. But to suggest 7-8 weeks is ridiculous. 5 weeks maximum. No way is it worse than what Cameron did to Andrews.
@dostap77486 жыл бұрын
Do you watch much football? This happens all game, every game. The players are pushing and shoving each other before the ball has even been bounced to the start the game. Its part of footy, its a contact sport. You can't put any blame on Brayshaw when he went to give him a shove or push on the way past and then Gaff turns around and breaks his jaw How come there were no more broken jaws,even slight injuries when it got heated and all the players were fighting each other?
@AMW1able6 жыл бұрын
He didn't "go past" Gaff. He went at Gaff. Gaff was just minding his own business and Brayshaw decides to come over and have a crack at him. He'll think twice before doing that again. I don't have a problem with pushing and shoving, but Brayshaw was looking for a fight. Well he got a fight, and he lost. Badly.
@dostap77486 жыл бұрын
AMW1able Gaff was heading towards the direction of the play and Brayshaw kept shoving him back and wouldn't let him pass so he swan at him (at his head or not) with enough power to break his jaw. Players have fights all the time without injuries like this. Head high, intentional or not, this was a dog act

What a polarised team! 20 mins of training the whole year juxtaposed by 6 gruelling hard fought years to get back to footy?! The team is split by this dichotomy of attitudes. There should be no divas in footy and Buddy is one massive Maria Carey! No wonder he's so inconsistent and often found MIA. That's not what the bloods are about. AJ's fight to get back into the AFL is what the true swans are about! Get working or get out buddy.
@paulmelrose11336 жыл бұрын
without buddy...the swans would not be in any finals ...he's your leading goal kicker
@AnthonyLeighDunstan6 жыл бұрын
I'd prefer a losing team with honour than a winning team bowing down to a prima dona. I'd take 10 more AJ's before I'd settle for a Buddy (attitude wise). Not a fan.
@Paperbagman5556 жыл бұрын
You shouldn't compare yourself to others just like you shouldn't compare two different footy players. Buddy's working fine, he's the best forward in the league. He's just not fit and the Swans have relied on him too much since he arrived. They need a consistent second option, which they haven't found.

Ok gaff did a bad thing but it wasn’t a long way off the ball. Ross Lyon and Damian Barrett are wrong here. The ball is in screen when it happened. It’s only 20-25 meters away. And Brayshaw dropped his head. Gaff should get 6 and like Bartle said, it will get dropped to 5.
@jayem76 жыл бұрын
Epic Banana Fail broken jaw, 4 messed up teeth and he can’t eat solid food for a week, it will be more than 5.
@drapior23526 жыл бұрын
Ja Ay I know that. Brayshaw dropped his head that’s why he got punched in the face. That’s where this will get graded as careless which will lower the grading for a week. But Gaff still punched and broke Brayshaws jaw so whatever the decision I believe that it will be the right one. Also the MRO looks at the incident first then the aftermath. That’s why I think it’ll be 6 brought down to 5 with his good record.
@drapior23526 жыл бұрын
Corey Hayes well yeah. If you haven’t seen the punch but heard Ross Lyon or DB you would think it was a punch far away making gaff look worse. But it really wasn’t. It was near the play and Brayshaw was getting into gaff pushing him after the contest. That tho doesn’t give gaff the right to punch and he should be punished. I don’t understand why you brought up the location of the game. I’m talking about when RL said 100m king punch and when DB said far away
