The problem is and not just between Gary and Gary but every single player is different, they can play the same position but will always play it differently. So yes you can say that this person is better than this if it’s clear but when it comes to the legends of the game they are all equal, you just can’t pick

U serious mate? By far the best in the comp. Another player called buddy franklin is also there. Buddy is the best of this generation. What he can do for a guy that's 2 metres is freaky. Only reason some people say ablett is coz he plays for Geelong and his dad. If buddy was white I'm sure they would give him more credit.

@@omaraz3161 There's no denying buddy is and has been an absolute star, but I'd have to hand it to Gary as being the best I've seen play and honestly really doubt race plays a part in many peoples opinion of Buddy, since when does he not get enough credit? Blokes an absolute gun and has some of the most memorable moments in modern footy (100 goals in a season and the 13 game to name a couple). Both greats that can win a game single handed. Just play different roles and makes a comparison difficult, personally they're the best I've seen (only 23) play in their positions.

@@ryanwaites6586 look. There have been many gun midfielders who have done what ablett has but there has never ever been a forward like Franklin. He can do anything and I mean anything. Best field kick. Almost 1000 goals in the modern era. Ablett is a gun but we have seen the abletts and judds and so on but know one has seen anything like a Franklin

Ablett was the best footballer in the comp for 5 years with 15 other star studded sides and played with some of the greatest ever footy players for team mates, and Ablett was still the cream of the crop, fyfe plays with 21 spuds and they think he’s the greatest of all time like he’s taken 4000 marks 2000 tackles 1500 goals 0 behinds 5 premierships 5 brown lows 5 norm smiths with less than 100 games to his name.... no... he’s a flog who’s umpires pet. I think G Ablett Jnr. played his absolute best footy when he was at Gold Coast. It looked even better because players around him weren't that great, but he had to push himself to the next gear to get the best result for his team.

@Pr1zA definitely would've won a third brownlow, in my opinion it was on track to be one of the best seasons of his career if not the best until his injury. He played only 15 games and came 2nd in the brownlow with 22 votes. utterly ridiculous

I’ve lived through both Snr and Jnr...and my opinion is rock solid. Snr is the best. If they both played on each other at their very best, Snr could stop Jnr but Jnr would not be able to stop Snr. But as a Geelong supporter, I feel very fortunate with all of it!

A true Gary Ablett Jnr was back in either 2008 or 9 playing North Melbourne, in that number two game maybe, they had him blocked in on the boundry and with just spacial awareness and running backwards he was able to make space out of nothing and was to me just the best example of a man in total control.

Nice video but these clips could've shown a lot more of his elite midfield work and creativity along with his next-level handballing. It included some but this video is mostly all about his goals. GAJ's balance, skill and footwork is what I remember the most about him. Definitely worth showing his freakish goals but that wasn't what made him the best player in the game. A lot of afl highlights seem to just focus on goals unfortunately.

@@omaraz3161 do you pay attention to player statistics? Disposals, contested possessions, inside 50s,score assists etc. Ablett Jr dominated every one of them for a good portion of his career. His years at GC were sublime, racking up 50+ possessions per game and litteraly carrying the team to each win they achieved in his presence. The man has single handedly changed the idea of what a midfielder is expected to be. As I said, Franklin was a great player and scored many important goals but he is not the greatest in his category. Gaz will likely be remembered as the greatest single player in the history of the game.

Very very hard to split them. Ablett probably as dominance and consistency every game over 300+ games. Buddy had bigger game-breaking moments. Ablett by a (missing) hair or two.
