What a day geez, I drove all the way to Melbourne just to watch the Vic’s role over us. Definitely need to bring back the origin game AFL.

Why Dunstall was allowed to play in a state of origin for Victoria is beyond me.

Amazing era of football, but Dunstall is from Qld and Kelly and Daniher NSW ? Who hell did Vic claim ?

And Terry Daniher? Isn't he (and his brothers) from NSW?
@mattlindh65754 жыл бұрын
Dunstall born and bred Queenslander, QAFL leading goalkicker 1984 with 73 goals when he was 20yo. 1985 moves to Hawks. Somehow it was ok to change the rules for Vic, however Wayne Carey lived in Adelaide since a 6yo, played majority of teenage footy for North Adelaide, was allowed to play Origin for SA, until he started dominating then Victoria argued because he was born in Wagga he must play for the Allies

Wow they really loosened the eligibility rules that year.

I love that Andy Collins got the Vics #4 over Tony Lockett. He was a champion, one of the greatest back pockets to play the game and a vital cog in the greatest backline ever - Collins Langford Ayres.

Turn it up best hawthorn backline maybe
@moistie5 ай бұрын
@@markuswilmes3694 Hell no. Collins was the best back pocket in the league in the 80s and 90s. Langford was in serious consideration for (and in my eyes should have been) Full Back of the Century. AND Ayres was a freak who won two Norm Smith medals Best of all time.

Look how schit MCG looked the ground was a mud bath. You can watch Tony kicking all day, what a beautiful style and accuracy, the players these days need to sit and watch how it was done properly in those days, for the money they get paid these days and missing easy set shot they should pay a $500 to their nominated charity.

the idea of a dunstall/lockett forwardline always intrigued me, so i was so excited when it happened. but how anyone could ever muster up interest in the state of origin.... I just didn't ever get why people liked it. what bragging rights are there? This isn't a state I watched develop skilfully and tactically, modified with some clever trades. Its just some guys from around the league a bit randomly shoved together!

That Victorian side was absolute bullshit! So many of them were interstate born and bred (Dunstall, Daniher etc) playing for Victoria? Total bullshit and I’m a Vic!
@alexander8688 Жыл бұрын
That's a good point you make though not unique . SA had a NSW guy Carey play for them even though he only played there briefly as opposed to Dunstall and Daniher who became the great players they were here in Victoria. Then there was the even more absurd situation when the so called NSW side filled with Victorians and others allowed to play for Nsw because they were swans players or even if they'd once flown over Nsw in a plane qualified them to play for Nsw. THAT was a joke. I was at the 1989 Vic - SA state of origin by the way. I was only 16 then now 50 god how time flies it seems like yesterday. Me and my mate paid either general admission or there may have been under 15 admission which we used to do even if we were a bit over that but then we snuck in to the members section amongst a bunch of mostly South Australians . I remember still clearly looking behind us and seeing a young South Australian girl crying. I kind of feel sorry for her now but back then my nate and I lapped it up after SA whipped us in the 88 carnival 🙂
