When I started participating in the Naviar Haiku Music Challenge just over a year ago, it soon became evident that I gravitate towards eclectic upbeat music. Some think that up tempo dance music and Zen don’t mingle. My view is a different one. For me dancing is meditating and composing electronic music frees my mind. Certain types of dance music, including but not limited to trance, techno-trance, techno-tribal, and world beat all have the capacity to create a void. A moment of everything and nothing. The regular pulse and repetition of the music, together with an increase in muscle activity through dance can lead to a trance-like state. Some refer to it as being “in the zone”. That’s why, in my opinion, it lends itself well to haiku and meditation.
This track was created for the Naviar Haiku Music Challenge in March 2020. The haiku that inspired it is by Sumitaku Kenshin.
