Probably my favorite horror mod of all time. I would absolutely love to see a fan sequel, or a continuation of David Leatherhoff's journey like IE he relapses or discovers the company behind the mysterious drug. There's a lot of plot potential for Afraid of Monsters. Cry of Fear honestly didn't hit as hard as Afraid of Monsters did imho.

I think the reason why the spear is the only weapon capable of doing damage is because it is implied that Addiction is a mirror of David and thus has all the same weapons as David until it came out of the mirror. So when David picked up the spear, the Addiction doesn't have it, since it "came out of the mirror"

Finally, a review of Afraid of monsters that bothers to actually LEARN THE GAME FIRST before anything else. I have seen plenty of reviews of Afraid of monsters and most of them if not all just end up saying the game is bad or extremely flawed. AoM has flaws of course but the game is built around the difficulty, learning the game first is crucial. Going guns blazing in DC will get you nowhere, you need to learn when to move and when to shoot, like the original Half life. Lovely review, I love the Director's cut of the game but never actually played the original, might be the best time to give it a shot.

Although Cry of Fear is superior in about every way, Afraid of Monsters does one thing better: Some of the jumpscares are quite elaborate. They don't make a sound and are very well placed and timed, enough to ingrain the image of a scary face into your brain, before you can process what you just saw was real or not. This concept could be perfected as a simulation of how's like to have hallucinations and thus giving player an experience that let's them sympathize better with protagonist's troubled mental state... Instead of jumpscares being as cheap and startling as possible. I do have a bit of conspiracy theory to why the developers went backwards on quality of jumpscares. The jumpscares in Cry of Fear are purposely made loud and flashy just to appeal to the youtube's horror let's play trend. Even the enemies are way too loud sometimes. I would love to hear from developers if this is true or not.
