Interesting fact about Zanzibar: It's home to the shortest war in history. The Anglo-Zanzibar War. Basically, Zanzibar was once a sultanate protectorate of the UK. The pro-British Sultan Hamad bin Thuwaini died on August 25, 1896 due to poisoning from his anti-British cousin Khalid bin Barghash. The British preferred Hamoud bin Mohammed to succeed to the throne to keep their interests. According to an agreement in 1890, the candidate for accession would need to obtain permission from the British consul. Khalid obviously didn't do that, and thus they sent an ultimatum demanding him and his forces to stand down and leave the palace. Instead, he barricaded himself. With three cruisers, two gunboats, 150 marines and sailors, and pro-British Zanzibaris, they attacked the palace harbor on August 27 and set it on fire. 2,800 Zanzibaris defended the palace, and this led to around 500 dead. After *38 minutes* of battle, the war ended with the British putting Hamoud in charge of a new government. And Khalid fled to seek asylum to German East Africa via the German consulate on Zanzibar.

I took KLM 777-200ER ICN AMS 2 wks ago, food was exactly same as this clip and no option. KLM dont offer spirit alcohol anymore but just beer/wine. After Covid, the World fly cost got Higher yet catering quality (meal) got Lower in avg...

Dar es Salaam is not the capital of Tanzania! Dodoma is! It was decided to move the capital from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma in 1974 and was officially completed in 1996. Moving the capital aimed to redistribute some of the population and ease pressure on resources and public services in Dar es Salaam. Dar es Salaam means "abode of peace" in Arabic and was named by Sultan Majid bin Said of Zanzibar in the 1860s when the Arab Sultanate of Zanzibar ruled the Swahili Coast. The Sultanate would rule Dar es Salaam until the 1880s when it became a part of German East Africa. Thus, the Sultanate of Zanzibar became just the islands. The sultanate became a British protectorate in 1890. Abeid Amani Karume International is named after the first president of Zanzibar. Abeid was Zanzibar's president between January 1964 and April 1972. He became president as the result of a socialist revolution that overthrew the sultanate as the result of the people being tired of Arab minority rule over the natives. Jamshid fled into exile, and the Sultanate was replaced by the People's Republic of Zanzibar. They would choose light blue, black, and green tricolor. In April of 1964, they chose to merge with Tanganyika and form Tanzania. Tanganyika's flag was a green-black-green flag with gold bands. So when they merged, they merged not just the two names as Tanzania but also the two flags...hence how the Tanzanian flag was created.

Please, this is unfortunately totally useless if one tries to understand if Business Comfort makes sense. I could not find any view of the seating. Just views out of the window. I am happy to contribute for your efforts - but this video is not helpful at all

Actually, when I first flew into the Serengeti, my flight landed at almost exactly 12:30pm, so technically, yes I did 😉

Nice report, thanks! Interesting to see inside a rarely viewed airport, Zanzibar. I flew once on BQE, back in 2013, from Johannesburg, before KZbin 😂 I managed an Eco Comfort flight on KLM to Bogota, a daytime flight, but I found the added legroom didn't add much when awake for the whole flight. But as I'm 6'2", 1m88 I'm sure it would be useful overnight! Thanks again

The added leg room was great for sleeping, though I agree that it wouldn't have been nearly as nice if I was on a daytime flight like you mentioned.

Thanks for a detailed report. Two things ought to have been mentioned and they are 1. Premium Y will be replacing Economy comfort and 2. Would Tanzania be able to afford a new Zanzibar airport ? I suspect it was funded by China.

I forgot to mention the premium changes coming in the near future. As for the new airport, your intuition is correct. The project was funded by a Chinese development corporation. I forget which on specifically, but it wasn't paid for by Tanzanian money.

I take it KLM call their Premium Economy Economy Comfort as it seems a similar concept,a bridge between Economy and Business but much closer to the Economy end of the bridge than the Business end!

Economy Comfort is being phased out. Premium Economy will take its place.

Premium economy is becoming the gap filler between economy and business. I do hope they keep some of the economy comfort seats, as it would be nice to have a way to get some extra leg room without paying the significant jump to Premium economy.
