Is it true that African Americans have no culture? This controversial claim has sparked intense debates within the African diaspora, leading to heated discussions on race, identity, and history. In this thought-provoking video, Nigerian-American and African-American voices come together to unpack the cultural misunderstandings that often divide these communities.
We dive deep into:
The misconceptions African immigrants hold about African Americans.
The role of media in perpetuating negative stereotypes about Black Americans.
The lost connections African Americans have to their African roots due to the transatlantic slave trade.
Whether African-American culture, like hip-hop, fashion, and slang, truly stands apart from African traditions.
Why some Africans feel superior to African Americans and vice versa.
This conversation covers everything from family expectations, educational achievements, and financial success to cultural pride and historical pain. It highlights the lingering effects of colonization, slavery, and migration that continue to affect relations between African Americans and African/Caribbean immigrants.
Join us as we tackle this complex topic and explore ways to bridge the gap between African Americans and their African cousins. Whether you're from the diaspora or just curious about Black identity, this video is sure to challenge your perspectives!

African cast us out and I think it is because they are mad that we are a very popular culture in fact more popular in America than Africans world wide. Africans sold us out and after they saw how we were treated they didn't even feel bad for us. They wished the worst fate on there enemies and we got destroyed basically. We may be from a broken culture but that doesnt mean we dont have a culture. Its separate from africa completely. We are children of war criminals. That's why they hate us. My goodness, these two are dim... they cannot be the smart Africans they speak of... its not that complicated. Do they not teach the Transatlantic Slave Trade at least as a "shared" history? Do people NOT know that Jamaica was one of the FIRST boat stops? Why do Black Brits, Nigerians, Ghanaians think Jamaica and the Caribbean is a part of Africa? Its literally a part of North America... as in en route on the slave trade? Like why are grown ass people (these 2 who are raised in America mind you) believing stereotypes? Then get proven wrong, grip even tighter to the stereotype? These two are exhaustingly ignorant its making my brain smooth...

If the slaves came from Africa then technically we all African even if we don’t know what part of Africa we from. Idk what the divide is if black Americans trace back there ancestry it all goes back to Africa, this is just more divide and conquer keeping us separated instead of looking at what we all have in common 🤷🏾‍♂️

A lot of immigrants get preferential loans when they come here, that also depends on the situation for example when somalis came to Detroit back in the nineties it didn't take a lot of them long to end up with business loans to open up restaurants, those loans that they wouldn't give to Black Americans living in the same neighborhood were easily given to a lot of Somali folks that's just one example. it happens a lot, right now we're seeing a lot of immigrants being housed for free in the state of California you'll see it plenty enough if you go to these new hotels being built in when u ask them what's going on (because a lot of them will have been built and it'll appear empty for like 5 months with security and a front desk person) or if u can get a room they will frequently give u the runaround on why they cant take u or ur money, Imagine asking somebody if they have a hotel room and them saying that they're not even open to the public and then watching 20 immigrants walk out to catch the light rails feels almost orwellian. I don't really mind immigration I just don't like being lied to on such a basic level when it's right in your face.

Thank you for this video it really enlightened me and helped me gain perspective on how i need to move going forward. I really wanted to go to Africa but after seeing how ignorant and judgmental people in general are about me as a black male person in general i think im good on yall. Ill arrive in Africa think people are gokng to embrace me but nope just more judging and stupid stereotypes. There is not one place on this earth i can go as a black man 5"10 with dark chocolate skin can go without being judege negatively. That's what i learned here today. So thank you
