Elvis knew what the world, in general, was going through at that time, so he sang this in honor of the greats, the greats like Martin Luther King, those who wanted peace and equality, Elvis never stopped being grateful, if there is someone who wanted a better humanity was Elvis but unfortunately not everyone listens to wise men

Also for Bobby Kennedy it was also killed in 68 and we know the Kennedys was also fighting for equal rights and it wasn't 1965 when Lyndon Baines Johnson signed the law into effect for equality and now the Supreme Court has already gutted it twice and us as a as Americans should come together on voting rights or we're going to lose to acquire and anyone in my book that is a real true Christian does not believe all this white supremacy Bowl as brothers and sisters children of God who he made in His image that's what I was singing about why can it appear what can it come true AKA Elvis Junkie

@@laurabexley9114 I can’t even imagine living back then, and losing Dr. King, and what a heartbreak that must have been for the people who were on the right side of history. Just... Wow! I didn't realize that he was 33 here. 1968 was horribly unbelievable year.. MLK, RFK shot down by deranged maniacs (with their supposed own agenda.. though I still believe, to this day, there were nefarious forces behind the scene) check out mistress of JFK shot down street in Georgetown in D.C. after his death.. killer never found (who looked?) Just as there are hands pulling strings in 2020-21 riots, looting & killings. Col Parker didn't want Elvis singing gospel OR traveling overseas..he worked him to death. Performing late night concerts- the being "up" for those & then going all night afterward, maybe some sleep during day..his whole biological clock "circadian rhythm" off. He had no idea ramifications of those meds doctor gave him. Too many performers fall into that lifestyle. We are better informed about drugs now than performers were in 1950's to 90's. The enemy roams the earth, seeking to devour and destroy.. anything to turn us from God

Watch the video "Elvis Presley and the Black Community" and that will give you an good idea of how Elvis fought his heart out for the innocent downtrodden.. He grew up dirt poor and hung out with African Americans who loved him as much as he loved them. He was a force for good, and it hurts to see him called a racist. ------------------------------------------------------------ Kim Domas 5 months ago (edited) This was Elvis's Tribute Song in 1968 to Honor MLK after his Murder in Memphis TN, where Elvis lived. It was based on MLK's "I Have A Dream" Speech and written for Elvis to sing. He insisted on singing it to close his 68 Comback Special against his Manager Colonel Parker's wishes, he wanted him to sing a Christmas Song to close the Show. RFK was also honored as he was Murdered shortly before 68 Comeback Special aired. These were Troubled Times in America, with the Vietnam War and Civil Rights Movement and Tensions were high. At that time singing this song would have been considered risky for his career but he didn't care he sang it anyway. RIP Elvis

I'm just now catching this as the Ukraine crisis is going on. These are definitely troubling times. Everyone is so divided. But think about also in the sixties when we had a president assassinated and then his brother assassinated and then dr. Martin Luther King assassinated and then Malcolm X and others. Plus throw in the Vietnam War on top of that and there was just so much drama going on. Apparently when Elvis got the news about the assassination of dr. King, he was on the set of a movie and they had to cancel production for a day because they just went into a back room and curled up in a ball and cried for hours. I think you can hear a lot of that in this dr. King tribute. Thank you for doing this and more power to you. Love you.

People (45 years after he's gone) still call Elvis King of Rock'n roll, but he did not like that, he considerd that the only King was God, but I consider him to be the King of Music, but what do you think, is he good enough to be called a Music King? Here are some of his Gospel songs: Amazing Graze, Take me home precisous Lord, You'll never walk alone, You gave me a mountin, Crying in the chapel, Why me Lord (written by Kris Kristofferson), Unchained melody, I'm not sure if it's a gospel song but Walk a mile in my shoes and many more... . If you prefer ballad songs then look at these: My Way, Suspicius minds, In the Ghetto, Memories, If I can dream that is a tribute (parts of it is taken directly from the I can dream speach by MLK) to Martin Luther King JR and Robert Kennedy, Walk a mile in my shoes, Make The World Go Away, Bridge Over Troubled Water, An American Thrillergy, Hurt, Sweet Caroline, Just Pretend, What now my love, Are you lonesome tonight (laughing versin, or not), remember that he sang over 700 songs... There are some videos of when Elvis joking and messing up, he loved to joke around and pretend that he did not have control, but he had total control, he acctually conducted his musicans and back up choirs all the time !! He is the only person to have 2 records gone to sell Gold and 2 to to sell Platinum since he died. Elvis is also in almost every genre of Music Hall of Fame (5 that I'm sure of), no one else is in more then perhaps 2. Not to bad for someone that did not have any singing lessons ever, right? . Something else that people tend to overlook: He always conducts his musicans and backup singers, he never gets credit for being able to do that... Then imagen you are a singer, you have great musicans, you have great backup singers, no Guest Artists, no Autotune, no Lipsink and no Fireworks, now all is about your skill, could you handle that pressure? That is what Elvis did in over 1000 concerts, despite having problems with his health, like his Glaucoma, the headlights must have hurt his eyes like crazy... He sang over 700 songs, I wonder how he could remember them all, he never vrote a song himself, so he had to remember other peoples songs, well that in it self is amazing in it self... By the way he had Glucomea and that must have been difficult being in the headlights all the time, that could be why he sometimes closes his eyes, but also sometimes squinting !! Elvis suits was made of 100% Polyester, or 100 cotton (I'm not sure witch one), it was originally a karate suit, it was very light, but it was hot, so it made him sweat a lot, he got some bad press about that, but if you give it all then you will sweat, it should be positive, right?
