We did this for our area-all state choir. At first we all hated it but when we added the the drums and clapping and all the voices it just moved. It was the best piece we did!

I sang under Brad Holmes in undergrad-- and Andre Thomas as a graduate student. Both first class conductors and amazing teachers and mentors.

I like this song much better with a bit of a slower tempo. Adds more emotion
@ironbirds90453 жыл бұрын
i think it being faster makes it more powerful and sticks to its roots

@Joester1515 -I know it's and African song and dialect, I sang this a week ago in a concert. I meant during the last hold, the women do this Native American sounding yell, it was just interesting.

In some versions of his song there's stomping involved. Personally I think it makes this song even better. It gives it more of the African effect.
@chrisdye2312 жыл бұрын
Hey noodle, you can buy it from First Step Records. They're the publishing group at Millikin University where Brad Holmes (arr) is from.

@aseretkavon I totally agree...The choir sounds amazing, but they need to have spontaneous, un-choreographed movement for song...It would be so cool :)

I know this is the All State Honors Choir and everyone wants to sound all pretty and stuff, but what ever happened to having fun in choir? This song was created by the Africans to make their everyday lives more leisurely; that's how they used music! Why not express it that way?
@Stalkerazzi3213 жыл бұрын
I think we could have done so much more to show our enjoyment. It's too bad he didn't take ideas. Of course it's understandable, the director already has only 3 days to teach us everything they want. :D

you can always tell if a person is a good singer if you can visibly see the words that they are singing. Clearly some can do this and look like this, :D good singers while others look like this '_' not so good singers.

Not to be mean or anything, but being from the original choir to sing this arr. with Dr. Holmes; this choir sounded really boring. It was like there was 0 emotion to the words being sung. It was fast and everyone singing looked like they were bored and didn't know what they were even singing. This song is meant to bring joy, but watching this made me feel sad that the choir didn't really get to experience the greatness of the text with this music.

@IJustMovedHere Whats the point of you fitting fourteen cuss words into a few sentances. It just makes people hate you even more!
