Depends if youve got Jamaican Christian Parents or not Most Caribbean Parents are Christians and very conservative and believe in 'licks' just like the slave masters did. Too much discipline not enough love hugs and kisses.... same goes for west african parents tbh I think that we need to redress the balance as black people full stop.
@michellea9857 Жыл бұрын
I don’t witness many Jamaicans practising their Christian faith and morals anymore in the UK, churches used to be filled with young Jamaicans back in the day but it is mainly British Africans and the newer African immigrants now. Of course many Jamaicans aren’t coming to the UK anymore and preferring North America …that is my experience anyhow could be wrong…

Where I grew up we had one square, and around that you had multiple families who came from the Caribbean (mainly Jamaica), Africa (mainly Nigeria), Bangladesh, India & Pakistan. And we all played together. The idea that "BAME" would represent us all is offensive. The indian families didn't so much like the Pakistani or Bangladeshi families and the same could be said of the Nigerians and English (as far as I remember the Jamaican families were the most neutral, but if anything aligned themselves more with the English and Indians over anyone else). With my upbringing I have to say we are racist. It didn't matter what colour your skin was, someone would be telling you you shouldn't be playing with such and such... We all wanted to play with each other and we did DESPITE our parents prejudice! All I can really hope for going forward is that future generations not only have the experience I did of growing up around others, but want to break those barriers we had as children!

I don't really have any crazy horror stories as a young African man growing up. I caught a couple of slaps every now and then but it was nothng crazy. I did well in school and I have a pretty decent job today. I'd say my parents did a great job tbh.

Mums white, dads a rasta but it was my mum that was flipping strict. She used to wait for the school bus coz there was a black boys secondary school on our road so she would walk with me. If I was late, 2 weeks no tv nothing. Used to hater her back in the day. But when i moved to my dads aged 16 and he was never there, I got up to all sorts. I say to my mum now "Be proud that when I left, I was still a virgin and that was down to you!" Me and mum are best friends now ❤❤
