Fun fact- The drums you see in this video which they play with 2 sticks, that's the same instrument you hear in "Manike Mage Hithe" song in the base. You will feel the familiarity of the beat. This instrument has a unique noise to it and it's called "Thammattama"

The Kandy Esala Perahera (the Sri Dalada Perahara procession of Kandy) also known as The Festival of the Toothis a festival held in July and August inKandy, Sri Lanka. This historical procession is held annually to pay homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic ofBuddha, which is housed at the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy. A unique symbol of Sri Lanka, the procession consists of traditional local dances such as fire dances, whip-dance garments. The festival ends with the traditionalDiya-kepeema ritual, a water cutting ceremony which is held at the Mahaweli River at Getambe, Kandy.....

It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. The relic was historically held by Sinhalese kings. The temple of the tooth is a World Heritage Site mainly due to the temple and the relic.

We are very careful when using elephants for the perahera. Only elephants who wish to go in the perahera are used for this. Elephants often meet their friends only in the Esala Perahera that is why some elephants like the perahera. Because of a legal situation, we put elephants in shackles. We give them toffees to entice the elephants in the procession. This is never an abuse to them.

Kandy esala perahera is a very special ocation in Sri Lanka, specially for buddhists. It will be held once a year for pay our gratitude towards Buddah. The karanduwa which is carrying by main elephent consist one of tooth belongs to Buddah. this Karanduwa usually take outside only once a year for this perahera, but if the country is facing a draught, it will take to the outside from the palace. We beleive it will give rain and in many times that action was success.
