African Safari - Part2 - Ngorongoro, Tanzania

The word "Ngorongoro" comes from the Maasai word El-Nkoronkoro, which means "gift of life". It's also an onomatopoeic term that refers to the sound of a cowbell.
The Maasai people named the area Ngorongoro after the sound of the bell that hung around the neck of the lead cow in a herd. The bell made an echoing “ngor ngor” sound. The hills could also reverse the echo back as “ngor ngor” like another animal was on the other side.
The Ngorongoro Crater is a large caldera in Tanzania that was formed when a volcano's cone collapsed inward after a major eruption. The crater is home to a diverse array of animals, including elephants, black rhinoceroses, leopards, buffalo, zebras, warthogs, and lions.
The Ngorongoro Crater is part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA), which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The NCA is a multipurpose reserve that allows human habitation and livestock grazing, but restricts cultivation.
