This is a start. But we have more than enough talent to create an African Anthem with true African Sound. We need to be true to who we are and not apologize about it.
@enqrbit4 жыл бұрын
What is a true African sound? Africa is too diverse to be categorized with one sound. We Africans are Amazigh, Tigrinyas, Fante, Afrikaans, Arabs, Malagasy, Somalis, Hutus, Khoisan, Dinka, Zulus, Igbos, Swahilis, Wolof, Shona and thousands of thousands more. Each unique and beautiful. The melody isn't everything but the meaning behind lyrics are.
@mugokibiru95134 жыл бұрын
@@enqrbit I get what you're saying, but for me, just because we are diverse doesn't mean we should then discard our culture. I would rather we pick from the thousands of our own than one that is from our oppressor.

@@mugokibiru9513 what is "our" sound theh ah? There is 54 recognized states in Africa from tip to tip, there is no single unified sound for Africa you want to put us all in a box without realizing is perpetuating the damage done by continues over generalization and clumping of Africans as no more than a conglomerate without fully realizing the unique potential of its individuals. Ethiopian poet & playwright Tsegaye Gabre-Medhin wrote the lyrics and renowned Kenyan choral composer Dr. Arthur Mudogo Kemoli composed the music. The original poem by Tsegaye was called "Proud to be African". The anthem was selected in a contest in Dakar, Senegal in 1986, and was retained as the AU's anthem in 2003.

I salute the AU and the progress it is making, but it is without flaws, but I believe it is making progress. However, I think we should not subject our kids to foreign culture and compel them to denounce theirs again? This song is a good step forward, but a lot has to be done, including respecting and recognizing the rich culture of Africa through our visibilities - national flags, national seals/emblems, national slogans, national songs,, ets. The AU is expected to be.a flag bearer, and our heritage the AU must reflect and protect. On the contrary, this song is in no way an African song: rhythm, tone/vocal, beat, etc.

As a Moroccan, I’ve been told since I was a kid that we are Arabs and the Middle East is where we came from. But lately I started embracing the fact that I was BORN and GREW UP in AFRICA and not the MIDDLE EAST. More of our siblings from North Africa should follow suit and stop clinging to a place we know nothing about, as Middle Easterns do not even consider us “Real” Arabs, so Africa is where my heart belongs to.
