Interesting to lesrn.... In East Africa we prepare the cassava pup/posho/ugali over fire once the water has boiled. We normally do not use the fish stock

Seems like food in West Africa is the same but known by different names by the location you are at. Like your host said, even different ethnic locals call the same food differently.....hope you all enjoyed the meal.
