There is an alternative to scrubbing. In Jamaica we cover the pot with ash and water paste or a paste made from soap powder and water and that prevents it from getting black on the wood fire and washes off easily. Otherwise there is no keeping pots shiny.

You speak the truth and said nothing wrong about people complaining about cleaning the pot, it's just the outside of the pot, it doesn't have to be perfect, I like cooking outside and that's what happens when using wood for fire to cook it's normal, peace and love to my love.

In my area we us3 to us3 coconut husk and ashes or sand to scuwer (scrub) our pots. Rub wet ashes or dirt or oil or soap on 5he pots before putting them on the wood fire. They will easily wash and keep shine trust me.

Don't tired yourself out scouring that pot.The blackness makes the cooked food sweeter. By the way, we use the same method. It's the sweetest food. All wood fire pots looks like that. I live in (USA) I missed those days, despite the socalled modern living. I lived in exactly similar conditions. Thanks for using your beauty to grace the simplicity of life. You have enhanced our greatest as a people, despite separated by thousands of miles; our ancestoral spirit joins us as one. Keep up this great work. My grand daughter, I love you and the work for our people. You will be greatly rewarded. Maintain your sweet simplicity of labour of love. Enjoy today's blessings for life, as you bless others. Selah

When I use pots on wood fire I take some pack soap or you may call it soap powder I put some in my hand damp it with a little water and make a paste on the pot so that when I wash it comes off easily or the ash from the fire wood can use to make a paste and it wash off easily you can try it

From physics black conducts heat faster than silver... actually silver reflects heat, so I wouldn't bother cleaning the outside for faster cooking

When you're done cleaning yr kettle or pots, you mix Ashes with water and smear it on the outside of the pots before you put it on the fire. It makes it easier to clean after cooking.

Nyako, that was too much work!! Please, before you put it on firewood again, do this. Take the scoop a lot of ash from the fireplace, sieve it so you only have the fine ash, mix the fine ash with a little water and some oil (cooking oil) to make a paste. The paste should not be very light...not flowing. Use the paste to coat the kettle wall, the same way you mix soil to coat your house wall. The kettle will never turn black. You can do the coating every once in a while.

Can apply some little cooking oil on surface before cooking to make scouring easier though the black soot absorbs heat and this makes the cooking faster

Madam please just use ashes and water mix it like a thick paste and rubbing all over the kettle just wash it out once a wk it comes out very easy and then do the ash past again all over the kettle. That’s what we do in west Africa.
