I learned so much from this video! African violets are my very favorite flowering plant, and I've been very successful with them. I use a wick system with very diluted AV nutrients so they're always getting just a bit. Your method is so interesting to me! I'm going to give it a go and we'll see what happens! Thank you for this! ♥️🪴

I lost all of my African Violets when Hurricane Katrina decimated New Orleans in 2005. I had 10, all growing very nicely. I started out with 3 that a coworker gave me when she was about to retire. She taught me everything I needed to know about properly caring for them, even growing a new plant from a leaf that had broken off. That's how I ended up with 10 plants. I purchased an African Violet with purple blooms just one week ago, and am happy to find how much I still remember, and the few things that I have forgotten. So I turned to the KZbin channel to find out how to care for violets properly. I'm glad I did, because I found tons of very valuable information. Good luck to everyone growing for the first time., and those trying to advance their skills in caring for Violets. Brenda DeBouse New Orleans, LA

I'm a chatty little thing. I piped up a conversation with a lady that works at our local gardening center when she was pruning up the african violets. I asked her if I could have what she took off of them and she agreed! I took them home and found 17 leaves that I thought had half a chance. I planted them and tended them with care I ended up with 12 plants, with 9 varieties. I don't know you but, if you are chatty or charming, I'd go into the local greenhouse for some fert. and strike up a conversation. Might work for ya. I'm a potter. My plan is to make double pot. I'm hoping to proliferated prolification with my AV. So I can sell them on the side. I need to support my clay and plant habits.

I've read the best method for these is to use the Swedish Plant Guy method, so just remove loose soil and surround the rootball with pumice or pon. They can be very sensitive to having their roots disturbed. I've found this is most definitely the case with small ones as I've lost every single plug plant I've tried to convert

Well Nora, thank you for this video cos I just transferred 2 large plants (like your large one with white flowers) into self-watering pots (12cmx14cm) and I'm hoping they don't die on me. They have sentimental value as they were from my sis-in-law's mum's funeral 🙏🏼 They have still been flowering for me since March so I cut all the flowers off to transfer from soil to LECA and now....I wait🥺 Your largest one shown at the beginning of this vid is just gorgeous. Let's hope these 2 get that big 🌸

Not at all yellow but like some one is steeling their green. The leave look healthy in every other way. Fuzzy and plump cells just their a whiter shade of pale. I haven't been playing them any Procol Harem. You have any idea what is cauzing this? They are in a north facing window but this is Alaska in the summer. I get sun over there for 3 hr. a night. Lol

Hi, thanks for the tips on transferring from soil to hydroponics. African violets can surive in semi submerged medium or even hydroponics if done properly. Many people do this not in Leca but in medium size perlite. The mini you were showing is varigated one, which means it needs much more light to survive and it's much fussier than the regular non varigated one. And they usually do ok. But the problem is, you were touching the roots so so much... I think you were rubbing the roots in between your fingers, which was a bit nerve racking for me because you were just destroying the plant right in front of us. I get that you were trying to show us, but you should not be touching the roots like that honestly. Also, you should remove the flower before transferring to a new pot. This applies for those that will be repotted upsized. We almost always remove flower stalks after it has been transferred to a new pot so that it can focus all its energy in growing the roots. FYI, the mini isn't that it was not mature enough, it is already mature for a miniture sized one. Because mini doesn't get that large even if it gets older. It is that you were touching the roots and disturbing it so much...that's probably why.
@TheLecaQueen11 күн бұрын
Thank you, your extensive comments are well appreciated. I will try the mini one again some time.
