@@Cyber_Diva I also researched Africatown. I read " Barracoon" that was supposedly written by Zora Neale Hurston. I actually went to Africa Town, the church, cemetary etc. I met the mayor. I walked around and talked to the people who lived there. Here's the real deal: 1) A white confederate woman by the name of E. Langston Roche wrote a great deal about AfricaTown. As a white confederate she is biased. 2) Others have used Roche's materials to create a narrative 3) Zora Neale Hurston died in 1960. The book she supposedly wrote titled. " Barracoon " was published recently around 2017 or 2018. There is no proof that it is authentic. 4 ) The book promotes the " they sold their own people" myth **Africans were not same homogeneous group of black folks who spoke the same language, same customs and beliefs. Africans are diverse!! There are different tribes such as the Ibo, Mandinka, Wolof, Fon, Fulani, Ashanti, Yoruba etc. They should be respected as such. Case in point Did whites kill their own people in the American Revolution? We are told that it was the British versus the colonists- even though they were both white and both spoke English. Did Nazis kill their own people in World War II? We are told they killed Ashkenazi Jews even though they were all white, and lived in Europe. Thus, Africans did not sell their own people! Many tribes wanted nothing to do with Europeans. The Europeans would arm that particular tribes' enemies with guns. They would incite a war between tribes which would lead to prisoners of war. The prisoners of war supplied their need for slaves. They would also entice kings with guns and rum 5) African slavery was different from chattel slavery in the Americas. African slavery was more like indentured servitude. In chattel slavery the slaves were treated like farm animals. They had no rights. Slaves and their descendants were perpetual slaves with no chance of freedom. 6) Through eminent domain a highway was built through Africa town and destroyed their once thriving business district. They once had a grocery store, gas station, restaurant etc They were once operating independently from the city of Mobile, Alabama.

I just finished reading the book: Baracoon. It is very short, but very interesting. I hope the people interviewed in this news item can someday recreate some little bit of Africatown to use as an historical gathering point. Americans need to learn more about the grimmer parts of their history. A lot of people had to suffer greatly in the process of building the nation - and many are still suffering.

No.Senegal, Gambia Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Angola, Congo, mostly West Africa. Some came from other areas in Africa.

People were sent to africa from americas via the favorable gulfstream current not the other way around, "black" Alabama's are as like Senator Beason slipped up and said, "Aborigines" and only Africans in the dystopia of the term.
