My heart goes out to all the ladies (including me) who had to do major cuts due to following this method. It will take some of us months or maybe even years to get that length back 😢. I did learn 2 valuable lessons: 1. I will NEVER fall victim to anymore natural hair trends and jump on anymore bandwagons. 2. I will speak up for myself and trust what my hair is telling me even if a “professional” is telling me everything is ok.

I’m glad she opted to get it all off at once. That is something I would have done. For some reason when my hair is cut and damage is gone, there’s also a feeling of relief on my scalp. Like the hair in the scalp knows something wasn’t right on the outside and is now corrected. Health over length any day. A fresh start feels and looks so good.

Thank you for the amazing work you are continuing to do regarding this subject. I thought I could salvage some of my damaged hair only to realize it’s just what you said. You have to treat it like you’re transitioning from a relaxer and cut it! There’s no amount of DC, leave in, bond builders etc that can repair it. Once it’s damaged it’s a wrap! 😝 However, changing your haircare regimen to include those things definitely helps preserve the new healthy hair that’s growing as you transition. You did a beautiful job on her hair Narada and I’m sure she finally feels freed from the emotional stress caused by the hair trauma she sustained! 💖🙏🏽

I usually have a few splits left over from my trims but that's because my stylist is giving me a technical trim and won't get every single split strand. I don't mind as long as he gets most of them ( what did Narada say 80-90%) and it immediately stops my hair from tangling.

I am definitely a victim of the idea of using little to no product on the hair because my scalp is sensitive to build up. However, I noticed that my hair isn't the same anymore. I was almost waist length but gradually my texture totally changed and the breakage and the shedding is crazy no it's about armpit length. After more than 10 years natural this is the worse my hair has ever been, even my curl pattern feels changed and the thinning is devastating. I have to start from square one to figure out how to take care of my hair. Worse thing is products have changed so much throughout the years. At this point i wonder if a trichologist is the best answer. SIGH
@nochoice3132
@nochoice3132 8 ай бұрын
I had the same problem with my scalp. I do hot oil treatment, you can have oil on scalp for three hours or more and then wash the hair . I don't oil my scalp after washing the hair. Try using all the products that good for your hair but leave the scalp alone. Hope that helps
@kitkatgeegee
@kitkatgeegee 8 ай бұрын
@@nochoice3132 thank you I'm going to try that. My hair is fine so product finds it's way to my scalp and after 3 days I'm feeling it. Maybe pre shampoo treatments are what I need.
@marleyhill34
@marleyhill34 8 ай бұрын
I went to the trichologists. I put nothing on my scalp but shampoo and the scalp mist from my trichologist. However, my hair length is saturated in leave in daily. I shampoo weekly so that keeps my scalp happy and deep condition weekly to keep the hair happy. This was what was recommended by my trichologists. My trichologists make their own products but I can use store-bought products also. If the product is finding it's way to the ends of your hair you might be using too much/too heavy a product? I have a leave in mist conditioner and a heavier leave in cream conditioner. The leave-in conditioner mist can go from root to tip but I keep the cream to my ends and if I use sealant like grease, butter or oil or silicone I only put that on the very tips of my ends in winter. Like only an inch or less from the bottom.

If it's possible, keep a calendar and track the products your hair hates and loves. I do this to keep track of what I use and how it interacts with my hair and now, I have permanent products that don't irritate my nose, work for their purpose and are affordable/available. For instance, I don't use anything on my scalp except my hot oil treatment (before I shampoo) and after shampooing it off, I just deep condition or condition, and apply my leave-in from tip to root and apply my styler both in a damp state. I use my fan to dry my hair if it's wash n go. My scalp hates being disturbed (for reference purposes, I live in a highly hot and humid industrial city)

I love how you have a health plan for your clients. They come in in trouble and leave with healthy hair and/or solutions to repair/maintenance. That's what it's all about. Thank you for that. Question: To reduce damage, should I blow my hair out before twisting, or is it OK to twist it while wet?
@AfrikanHairGod
@AfrikanHairGod 8 ай бұрын
I recommend keeping heat to a minimum. The only time i use heat is to get an accurate cut and to see the level of damage that you can't see in its natural state. I always do my clients hair in its natural state wet. You will get more moisture retention that way

I get angry for them because I know those curly cuts and blackgirlcurls method and product recommendations were not cheap....I stopped going to black stylists in 2009 because I thought to myself why am I going to pay someone to damage my hair and scalp. I might as well damage it at home. and now 2023/2024, not one damned thing has changed with so many bootleg and uneducated stylists. Narada and a few other stylists (GlamFam, KrissyPoo)on KZbin are the only consistent ones.

Ok, so I was curious about curly cuts and got one as an experiment. I wasn’t impressed. I thought the cut gave my hair shape, but honestly I could’ve done it myself at home or achieved the same results with a straight hair trim. I didn’t see any particular skill set that was needed to do it. Most importantly, I understand how the stylist can miss splits bc they’re just cutting your hair randomly without any assessment of the hair shaft/ends. With my experiment complete, I’ll be returning to straight hair only trims. I NO have interest in experimenting with no oils/butters, that’s insane to me. Please know before the cut I went to my regular stylist for a straight hair trim and confirmation that my hair was/is healthy.

Hi!! Happy New Year...All I can say is that you are amazing! I'm still in the middle of watching this video and I have SO many questions. No oil, no butters? What's the logic behind that? Anyway, I had to stop to say, I love that you take the time to explain in layman's terms what is going on with the client's hair and that you ASK what THE CLIENT wants to do with THEIR hair. Your "bedside manner" is unmatched. If I lived in Georgia you would be the only person I would trust in my head. Give thanks to you and may The Most High continue to bless and anoint you. P.S. For me I don't use raw oils and butters because they make my scalp inflamed. However, I can use leave-in conditioners and deep conditioners with oils and butters formulated into them with no negative effects. BlackGirlCurls told their paying followers and customers to stop using oils, butters in raw form and to stop using leave in conditioner and deep conditioners!! I also get my hair cut straight because when it is cut curly it still tangles too much. Poor Shelly was recommended a clarifying shampoo and didn't know and was using it twice a week with no deep conditioner or leave in....I only clarify my hair once every 4-6 weeks, I use deep conditioner every week and leave in conditioner ( small amount) every day. Some people limit oils and butter because of scalp conditions and for others, oil and butter is not a moisturiser so they want more moisture than...sealants. Because I moisturize my hair daily with leave in conditioner, I don't need to seal my hair. Also a lot of black hair care is heavy-handed on oils, butters and grease when you really only need a small amount and a good enough shampoo every 1-2 weeks to remove it.

I wore twists all 2023 and trimmed whilst in twisted hair state. However I kept getting single strand knots that I had to cut. My hair did much better when I was blow drying and flat ironing. Wonder if I should go back to relaxed…😔

Do you recommend transitioning the hair off or taking the damage off all at once?

It depends on the level of damage and how it's affecting the hair. Some ppl can transition safely and others are too far go for it to make a difference

I wonder if the extra splits on the top are because they tell people to put a topper gel on top of the wash and go. Just a random theory.

So how often should we wash? They kept saying 7-10 days. If wearing the hair “out”

The frequency of cleansing isn't the problem. They were encouraging ppl to over cleanse with the stronger shampoos they kept advertising and pushing

I shampoo my scalp every 7-10 days and use deep conditioner for 30 minutes with a cap and hot towel steam. If I swim or re-style in between, I use a co-wash and regular rinse out 5-10 minute conditioner. Yeah unfortunately they recommend a clarifying shampoo for weekly and twice-a-week wash and gos.........I only clarify my hair once every 4-6 weeks...sometimes like in winter, I stretch it even longer....My hair is dry. it doesn't need to be stripped regularly. I only wear my hair "out" in the summer when the weather is less harsh but I keep it covered from UV rays. So Out once the sun has gone down...Lol! My trichologists in fact do not advocate for wash and goes. They say it is better for moisture retention to keep the hair in twists, finger coils, flat twists and 2 or 3 French braids.... Those styles also keep my hair stretched and reduce tangles and single-strand knots for me.

They advised to use an all purpose every third wash day and follow it up with a moisturizing shampoo. Other wash days use a moisturizing shampoo.

@@MamaEzi that's not true i have seen with my own eyes, in writing, that the were recommending that all purpose should be used every 7-10 days. Please don't get in this comment section and get to lying.
