I had my autosomal DNA analyzed, and I found a little surprise. I was born in America, but I discovered that I am part Turkish and Iranian. This knowledge led me on a quest to research my western Asia genealogy, and this is how I learned about the Arab Slave Trade. I am not ashamed of my heritage nor do I want my Iranian and Turkish distant cousins to feel sadness or guilt about the choices their forefathers made. I have always lived my life with love and acceptance of people from every ethnicity and socioeconomic background. My discovery simply means that I have more people on this large planet whom I call family.

You are not Turkish ethnically, you’ve been slave then brought over by the Ottoman Turkish to turkey. That’s different that the ethnic ottomans Turkish who went to turkey and established what the world know as ‘turkey’ today. The ethnic Turkish people are the Caucasians from the Caucasus near southern Russia. You cannot just claim yourself Turkish. And Afro-Turks appeared because of the slave trade, if the slave trade never happened, there will be no “Afro-Turks”. Also Caucasians are not Europeans just to put it out there. There’s no such thing as a “Caucasian race” like the US wants us to believe.

This is a biased video. Even the translations are tailored. Colored people are treated as brothers in this country. They may draw attention because of their colors, but they're never treated differently. Considering how racist some Germans are towards the Turkish people who live there, who actually helped them build their economy after WW2 (because many German men got killed in the war), this is a sad attempt to promote racism.

I learned that I descend from an Afro-Turk. I took a DNA test and thought I was just half Turkish and half European. I learned that I have a small amount of African ancestry (Senegambian and Ethiopian). I found a cousin who was living in Africa, and we matched to a person 5 generations ago who was mixed with West Asian and West African DNA. I never knew about this until my distant cousin contacted me, and then I did some googling and learned that African laborers settled into Antalya, where my Turkish family is from. It's quite a surprise, but it clicks why my Grandfather had darker features.

Everything is a lie, Ottomans conquered countries where slavery was already in place, they didn't bring it or created it, with the exception of central Ottoman Empire ( current Turkiye and neighboor countries in Asia ), pretty much everywhere was still governed by locals as long as they paid taxes and they swore to not attack the empire, things were left as it is. Regarding Africans, they were sold in Istanbul by merchants from those countries, mostly arabs merchant, that's how they were brought in Anatolia, nothing to do with the Ottoman army. But eventually Ottoman Empire was also the one to abolish it, cause it was brought to the court of the Sultan how bad they were treated, only empire in the history to do so by the way, but this actually was a wrong move cause it made locals in those countries unhappy and is one of the reasons for the revolts.
