Jess Hinckley you’re definitely not weird. I took in a spider morph who was in bad shape, refusing to eat, a third the size of the rest and about to be culled by the breeder due to her wobbling. She used to try and hit him every time he opened the drawer, but even then, I could hold her easily and she’d be calm and content w me. And she’s been exactly the same since I’ve taken her home. We worked together to figure out an eating schedule that worked for her and she went from rarely eating even a tiny mouse to eating a large mouse AND small rat, weekly, until she caught up a bit and then she let me know she only needed one weekly. If you’re willing to pay attention and listen to your pet, they can feel your energy for sure and will help u to help them. Animals are very in tune with their needs, wobble or not

I never realised snakes had personalities. It was like she was seeking out the interaction and human contact. I have a dislike bordering fear of snakes, so for me to sit here and watch half an hour of content on a snake is saying something. I’m still not sure I’d want to touch one but I do have a lot more empathy for them now

I was like you at one time. I intentionally went into a pet store that had ball pythons available. I told them my fear and that I wanted to try to get over it. They got out one and I touched it first. It was warm and smooth feeling so I held it. It curled all around my wrist and was so sweet. I no longer have read of snakes. I went back several times to handle it until it was sold finally. I want one one moment then the next moment I'm not sure. It's not fear it's concern I wouldn't be able to care for it properly. I would never want to harm one so, we will see

​@@mariehines1102 I would suggest that care of a snake (ball pythons especially) are actually pretty easy if you pay any level of regular attention to them. If you live in a super dry environment and can't keep the cage at the "perfect" humidity, you can probably do okay just letting the snake soak in a bath once a week, or giving it a humidity box which is pretty much just a smaller box with some damp paper towels/moss or something and a small opening for the snake to enter/exit. Then just heat one side of the enclosure to the recommended temperature, and the other side can be pretty much room temp. Clean the waste out of it's cage. If the cage smells bad, replace the bedding after cleaning it. You can see, handle, and feel the snake to tell when something is going wrong. From my perspective you shouldn't be concerned that you wouldn't be able to care for it, but the concern should be whether you will take the time to care for it and have the interest to go for it long term.

@@mariehines1102 When I started getting into snakes in the beginning of 2019 I wasn't sure if i would be able to care for one properly either, but march 2019 i bought a ball python, and I must say it is really easy to take care of (keep in mind here I just turned 16, I was 14 when I got the snake. You mostly just leave it alone and let it do it's own thing.

She’s the most mild neurological issue spider morph I’ve ever seen. Such a terrible issue that can be so easily prevented by not breeding them. Many even end up biting themselves when trying to feed. So sad. She’s healed so much in such a short amount of time! Amazing.

Some really good, professional breeders can breed without getting the wobble disorder. Theyll actually get all breeding snakes tested before putting into breeding. I follow one on insta who does breed spiders and has been very good about keeping that problem out.

What does the breeder do with the babies that aren’t as mild? Iceland has “cured” Down syndrome.... because they highly encourage expecting parents to terminate if it’s detected in utero. there are other morphs that look exactly the same minus the suffering. Besides there’s more than enough pets that need homes. Sadly I’ve never had a need for a breeder.

Secondly, they've taken a lot of pride of having no babies getting wobbles, and dont breed any wobble carrier parents. Like I said, proper breeders will make sure theres no wobble in their spider morphs.

Kelsey Plagman I just meant that you can’t ‘bred out’ recessive dna in snakes or in humans without some level of loss of life. Harsh as it is. The snake parents or babies that have the brunt of neurological issues are either killed or have short, difficult lives. I’d be a miracle if a breeder managed to have a 100% rate of 0 neurological issues or 0 major neurological issues, but if they can, wow. Good for them, keep it up 👍 I agree, it’s better to support a small breeder than a massive uncaring corporation. But let’s be real, the breeder’s end goal is to make money. There’s nothing wrong with profiting on your business and you can enjoy the thing you make money on, but breeders aren’t like the saviors of the reptile industry or something. If I were a breeder and it was between breeding a high value morph or doing my best to insure an animals quality of life, I’m not risking the animal’s well being.

@@JustNatax3 what upsets me most is that there's a reptile KZbinr who's also a businessman/breeder for spider pythons. His defence of continuing to breed and sell them made me beyond livid and the fact that some people find these neurological issues as "cute" disgusts me. I cannot recall his name but I wish he was banned from the platform and his reptiles removed (I believe in one video, he acquired a bunch of baby leopard geckos to which his wife(?) joked they'll die under his care unless they end up as her, or the other workers, responsibility.) As someone who owns rescued Leo's I found this comment abhorrent. Sorry for the rant I just get upset that people are breeding these poor babies under the guise of "it's cute" or "it doesn't affect them" so they can make their dirty money. Smh.

Ball pythons are one of the most neglected snakes out there. We have a rescue we got from Emily of Snake Discovery (he was the burned snake she picked up petco). He's living the high life now and I'm so happy to see Saturn doing so phenomenally better as well. If you dont rehome her I think you've accidentally found your new channel mascot! She seems to really like your hands

It's not necessarily that they are the most neglected, more that they are the most popular. The more people buying them, the more people who don't know what they are doing. Unfortunately a lot of pet shops buy in hatchlings, but don't have the correct knowledge on how to look after them, and so give out false information. People need to realise that if they want a healthy reptile, correct information on care, and continued support after buying any reptile, then the breeder is the best place to go.

Emily was a huge influence and inspiration when it came to us deciding to get first get a snake. We now have 3 and counting. My husband always asks me now "did you see Emily just uploaded a video?" We compete to see which one watches first lol I'm so thankful there are organizations like yours that take in snakes that are maybe otherwise "unwanted". do you have a website? Do you rehabilitate to resell or just use them for educational purposes? I'm always happy to give a rehabilitated animal a loving home, if that's something you do

@@alscritters156 Sadly this isn't true humans are much more resiliant than most animals. Human beings are very well evolved physically most people just don't think about it. Our scar tissue in particular is super interesting, it grows very quickly and is also much thicker and tougher than say a dog or cow.

Was so sad to see. I was looking for a lavender albino or pied. Found the perfect lavender albino for me and he's the most adorable danger noodle.

That's what I was thinking, but my instincts are much more focused on mammal care than reptilian, so I wasn't sure. If she was, I dunno, a ferret (the snakiest mammal I know), I definitely would be thinking it was an oral abscess & hindering her eating.

I believe that it is an abscess... I had a ball python that had that and if it gets into the skull you will not be able to get all of it out even with surgery. There are a lot of openings on a snake skull and it almost always makes its way in. It is not puss filled like a mammal so it cannot simply be drained. It is hard like a tumor and usually cannot be removed from the inside of the skull... Unfortunately it usually means that the snake will perish from this once it works its way into the brain cavity and puts pressure on the brain itself. Sad, because there is usually nothing you can do but I hope it turns out differently for this snake!

If she had mouth rot (which I personally believe she did), if left untreated for a long time before she was rescued, the infection could have unfortunately spread to the rest of the head and bones, and done damage. Hopefully it is just swelling from irritation (caused by the shed being stuck for so long).

If youre not having luck with frozen try thawing in Turkey broth and piercing the skull with a needle. It got my injured. The swelling may be from her smacking her head. A lot of spiders get nose injuries

The rescue video made me cry. She looked horrible. I'm so glad to see her looking noticably better and that she has her eyes back. You're awesome. I feed live rats and I get nervous when I just step back (not even a minute) where he can't see me (he doesn't like me watching him) I couldn't imagine leaving a rat in with him for as long as it takes for this to happen.

It definitely wasn't just one rat, the owner most likely would just toss live rats in there and walk away, the rat would take a few bites at the snake and then get eaten, repeat this over and over. As the snakes condition got worse, it moved slower and slower and refused to eat more and more, and the rats would bite more and more accordingly.

She is looking a whole lot better then she was but that Vitamin E oil will really help here along and getting that tail end off will be great. l have used Vitamin E many times for any dryness of the skin. The eye looks like she may have abit of an infection going on in her eye but l hope that she continues to get better and starts to eat for you soon.

They're also very misunderstood and neglected creatures, and one of mine is a rescue (That's a can of worms for a different day >.>).
