I love you already. Unlike most reptile owners, you make sure your animals have a great quality of life by giving them large, naturalistic tanks. You're also very informative and seem like an overall cool person. I wish I had people like you were I live XD

Great video, both this and the herp one too. A very organized, clean, and well maintained collection. I noticed your Tyrannosaurus skeleton too, I have the same one on my book shelf! I must point out to you though that I believe your skull is an actual domestic cat skull and not a ringtail skull. A ringtail would have a longer snout. Great content you're producing, keep it up!

The skull is a domestic cat skull. I volunteer at an animal shelter that I did co-op at which was through my school and part of a project was to put a cat skull back together after cleaning it. It was pretty cool it was upsetting because it was an abuse Case which is why it was in pieces but it was really fun to learn about and actually do !

Can you please give me a list of pets that can live in a 2.5 gallon aquarium
@AfroHerpkeeper8 жыл бұрын
Lots of small animals can fit in a space that small, but an aquatic habitat is going to be harder to maintain, simply because there's just not enough water to properly cycle the tank. That said, shrimp, snails, and guppies do fine in a 2.5 gallon tank. If you're looking for something terrestrial, you could try invertebrates such as tarantulas, scorpions, or smaller insects, or a small amphibian or lizard. I've kept tree frogs, scorpions, roaches, day geckos, banded geckos, and other terrestrial lizards in tanks that size before.

can you lose a sling tarantula on a 2.5 gallon tank ? .-.
@AfroHerpkeeper8 жыл бұрын
Slings are typically housed in cups because they're small, burrow-sized containers that make feeding easy and allow you to keep tabs on them at all times. I personally wouldn't recommend housing a juvie T in anything larger than a measuring cup

WOAH, really nice room you got there!! What reptile/amphibian do you think a beginner should start off?
@AfroHerpkeeper8 жыл бұрын
Plenty of species to choose from! Anything you feel comfortable with works, but I'd start with an animal commonly bred in captivity. Any specific type of animal in mind?
@pedroparente94508 жыл бұрын
Well, in my country(Portugal) the range of possibilitys is kinda low, being that under 70dollars the only thing avaible are mostly bearded dragons, corn snakes and some geckos(more inclined to the geckos) : Gonatodes ocellatus; steno stenodactylus; Gecko marmoratus; Ebenavia inungusis ; Gecko vittatus. Do you personally know any of these geckos? ( Thank you for your fast anwser, for now i will be reading about the species for at least a couple or more months, just so i can be fully prepared if i decide to own one)
@AfroHerpkeeper8 жыл бұрын
Oh wow, I had to look most of those up. G. ocellatus and E. inungusis are seriously beautiful. That said, I think you'd have the least trouble with G. vittatus - I've seen them offered before and they seem easy to work with.

Hey Daniel , my leopard gecko's tail got ripped off by my parrot recently , what should I do ? Thanks (p.s. I know that you aren't a vet)
@AfroHerpkeeper8 жыл бұрын
If the flesh is still exposed, keep it clean and keep the leo in a sanitary environment until the wound closes up. Feed it lots of protein and calcium-rich foods to encourage proper growth. Thankfully, leos are built to lose their tails and it shouldn't be a problem in the long run, just be sure to keep the parrot away in the future.

Hi I was just wondering if there was a reptile/amphibian that does not need electricity and eats pellets and can live in a 10-20 gallon tank
@AfroHerpkeeper8 жыл бұрын
Crested geckos fit that description pretty well - they do best at room temperature (65-75 degrees F), and don't need UV light. They don't take pellets but do eat a powdered food mix, so there's no need for live prey. African clawed frogs also fit the bill, but without an electric pump you'll need to clean their water somewhat more frequently.

Nice video, but I'd like to point out that the hisser you picked up is female. You can distinguish a male from a female as those "bumps" on the pronotum of males are significantly pronounced (they use them to ram into each other when sparring over females) and they have shorter abdomens as they aren't needed to house embryos like those of the females.
