Was not a Shicoff fan - heard in a few operas where there was no beauty or persuasive sound. There was much acid in his voice and also annoying wobble. He had a love affair with himself but when it came time for him to sing - he started canceling performances and also with Teresa Stratas became known as unreliable.

_After listening to this video again -- 10 months later -- I am even more thankful for this exposure to these great singers._ _I'm not really much of a fan of verismo opera, but MAN ! I never heard "Pagliacci" sung in the way of Peter Lindroos -- unexaggerated / flawlessly performed as no one else I have ever heard. It is so free of over-the-top Pagliacci-excessive singing as you hear from "great" tenors AND you wonder why they put their voices through such straining expressions for verismo opera which is not worth sacrificing great operatic voices, in my opinion._ _Lindroos takes the aria to bel canto-style delivery :: breath-control / no excessive sobbing / clarity of the sound / his upper notes were powerful & ringingly-delivered to that mirror & perfect "cut-offs"._ _Giuseppe Sabbatini's vocal technique is the highest standard. After hearing him sing ( "Puritani" ) OR anything else, it's hard to go back to singers not on his level of perfect skills in "general" singing ; high notes & clean breaks w / the last word ; a swimmer's breath-control ; a beautiful sound & how many singers ( tenors ) can play the Double-Bass ?_ _We should give singers every possible _*_Break,_*_ as they give so much in return !_

By what I had heard, she wasn't so great. They had regular shouting matches behind the stage and she was more jealous and controlling that everything and quite bossy... For instance: At one time, during a rehearsal shortly before the performance, he was overly high strung and unhappy with the position of the lighting on stage and protested, but the director refused to change it. Instead of using intelligence and diplomacy, calming him down gently and finding a solution for everybody in that situation (that is what I would have done ) ,she demanded simply: "Franco, w e leave." In that tone. She had him rather break a contract with the opera house and disappoint his fans that convincing him to a compromise. And she must have thought him not being capable to think and to stand up for himself. That says everything, I think.... This scene was witnessed by the famous singer Christa Ludwig, who was rehearsing with Corelli. When she told that episode to the interviewer, her face said it all. And I must admit I think the same...

Thanks so much for this compilation. Ratings ususally imply a negation of anything not on the first level. Few singers are luck to have the right connections for the duration of their careers to garner the top tier of recognition, The artists in your video however, deliver such incredible art that no objective marketing label of "the best" should be allowed to tarnish their contributions to classical vocal art that demands more than human beings can sometimes give.
@alessandroberchielli84726 жыл бұрын
@liricamente75496 жыл бұрын
@alessandroberchielli84726 жыл бұрын

Further, he was leading tenor of his time until he suffered the loss of his voice perhaps due to unfortunate technique choices or simply the hazards of time or perhaps the emotional blow of his divorce. His suicide was a tragedy beyond bearing.

It's ironic that once he started singing the heavier lyrical repertoire at the behest of Sutherland and her husband, he lost vocal coordination. By the time the late 90's and mid-2000's, he was working on his voice again.

Mister Opera, General Radames and AfroPoli must make a team in order to advance the cause of good singing VS the hideous stuff we have nowadays. Maybe some common videos? A common channel? Some conferences? A lobby? haha I don't know! But I do know that they need to have their say in our sad operatic world that is today...

Treyson Sherratt It’s a polemic, one-sided and dogmatic attempt to promote a certain technique. The channel owner tries to impress young singers with technical jargon and easy solutions IMO. The jargon won’t help and the “solutions” won’t get them anywhere. I pity those who believe in that quack.

Savona and Francesconi. What a performance that must have been.

Unfortunately Savova left us recently, she died in her native town Varna in 4/1/2021. R.I.P.

I heard the messa di voce of Sabbatini on the high C in "Salut demeure chaste et pure" 25 years ago and it's still one of my great operatic memories.
