OMG. Thank you for thia turorial. I'm starting my mohawk yarn locs when I get home and have been dreading a long process. You make it look so easy and I love the tip about adding strings for wrapping instead of trying to measure out long strings. So excited to get started now!

Hey, girl! You are so pretty! I love your locs, the color is just the best. I want to ask how long do you keep yarn locs/braids? I've been using braids with fake hair 'cause i live in Brazil and there's no colorful hair to braid around here, and i would die for pink/purple/blue braids! Do you think braids with yarn work well? (sorry about the giant comment) Have a good day, darling!

Larissa Soledade aww thank you! =) I absolutely love yarn braids. It's a great protective style. I usually keep mine in for 1 1/2 -2 months but they can definitely last for a while as long as you take care of it properly (frequently oiling and moisturizing scalp + washing to prevent product build up). I say you go for it!

+Dae Dae23 Any yarn is fine as long as it is 100% acrylic. Wool yarn will just lock your hair. Red Heart is the most popular brand for yarn braids/locs I've seen. In this video I'm wearing Crafter's Secret acrylic yarn because they had the colors I wanted.

+Eye Candy sorry for the late response KZbin is retarded. I started at 10pm and didn't stop till 8am the next morning (because I had a very important event to go to) but don't do like me! lol Stretch it out if you can. Or start bright and early sometime during the weekend so you can take your time. I was literally dreaming while doing my hair, I was that tired. SO def make sure you have a lot of time.

how well do you think this method would work on other textures of hair like white and asian
@Afropunkie
@Afropunkie 8 жыл бұрын
+Mikayla Mae (Mika) That's a good question. I've never witnessed it being done on white and asian textures but I definitely think it's doable. The rough texture of the yarn may overcompensate for the lack of grip on silkier hair. So when you go to do the wrapping method it should stick to the yarn braid underneath pretty well. I would definitely start out with maybe two strands of yarn to catch the hair so it doesn't slip off and then build from there. You might have to make the braid underneath longer to make sure that your hair is locked in if your texture is really silky and tends to unravel. I would love to see a tutorial if you decide to try it.

@Afropunkie
@Afropunkie 8 жыл бұрын
+alex b I've definitely rocked yarn locs for 3 months before and it held up pretty well. I kept it fresh by redoing the front maybe every few weeks and making sure that I kept my scalp hydrated. I would wash as often as you can to get rid of any product build up.
@AndizzleXO
@AndizzleXO 8 жыл бұрын
How would you suggest washing it? This will be my first time trying it so this will be a bit of an experiment for me :)
@Afropunkie
@Afropunkie 8 жыл бұрын
I would wash it like any other braids or locs. Just make sure you rinse very thoroughly because you dont want any build up in the yarn. Yarn tends to soak up a lot of water so you will spend a lot of time ringing it out and trying with your towel.

Did the yarn dry your hair out? For me the yarn did I know the yarn is like cotton so it absorbs easily. I also used a cheap version. But I was so traumatized that i would never do yarn again lol.
@Afropunkie
@Afropunkie 8 жыл бұрын
oh noooo. Yea yarn has the tendency to soak up everything that's why its important to fill a spray bottle with water and a little bit of natural moisturizer and apply daily- that way its not so dry when you take it out.
@SJSmith-nu4ic
@SJSmith-nu4ic 8 жыл бұрын
You should try a cotton/silk blend like Debra Norville Cotton Silk Yarn. That way it soaks up less of the moisture. I've never done yarn dreads before I literally just stumbled upon this video randomly, but I do work with yarn (it's like my job lol) so I've learn from experience that cotton soaks up everything (when you swim in a crochet cotton top it can get heavy) but the cotton/silk blend doesn't (less heavy when you swim in it). Maybe that might help :)

Yes, not in person. But on KZbin some people said my hair was messy and dirty lol but I brushed it off. Cant let people get you down. The styles I like are always out there so Im always prepared for negative feedback. It just helps me improve as a person in the end.

What if I don't want extensions? Can I skip that and just wrap it???

U would have to braid your own hair first. But the knot created by the extension helps to hold the wrapping hair at your scalp. Thanks n my experiences.
