Don’t know why you’re asking this in a Reading 2100 KZbin video, but fundraising continues with boiler work, running gear, and frame work. The new firebox project is almost at the finish line, as the new sheets were recently test fitted. Stay tuned for another update on another part of the locomotive in May.

ASR is open to other special paint schemes, providing that donors (individuals, organizations, or businesses), or a grant, provides the funding. To paint a large steam locomotive and tender like the 2100 costs approximately $35,000 - $50,000. Thank you for your interest.

I have 2 questions about the Oil Conversion: 1. Does anything besides the firebox have to be modified, changed, or removed for the oil burning system to work properly? 2. Even though you guys are currently focused on getting the locomotive operational, have there been any railroads or groups who haven't invited you before your announcement for the oil conversion that have invited you to operate at their railroad or establishment after the announcement? Besides that, keep up the great work!

Hello, Very good questions, please see our answers below: 1) Yes, the smokebox is seeing changes as well, as oil firing requires a different amount of drafting vs. coal firing. FMW is scientifically calculating the changes to the petticoat (the large tube that funnels the steam and smoke up to the smokestack), and any enhancements to the blast nozzel. We will be sharing this work as it progresses. 2) Yes, while we are not yet ready to make any announcements, the oil firing announcement has opened up communications with additional locations to operate, and in one case has kept them progressing as we are now in a contract negotiation.
