Good on you! I started watching your videos when you and your family were in Medellin and I'm glad to see you all are doing well. Doing deep "on the ground" research is CRITICAL when looking for a place to relocate. Also, even though people decide to move abroad to save money, live a better life, etc, it's hard to get rid of the "I want/need to impress my friends" mentality. People look at an apartment or house and think "yeah, but won't nobody be impressed by this, so I'm not interested". It takes some time to shake that mindset and focus on what makes YOU happy, not what makes other people (who won't ever come visit anyway) happy. And I totally get the feeling of being a misfit here in the US. There are many times when I think to myself that I just don't fit in here in the US. There is a "place" for everybody and I can't wait to find mine!

You are right on the mark with your comments. It is so refreshing to see it. There is a "High Society" in Merida, but you do not have to buy into it unless you want to. I have spent many days and weeks in Merida over many years. The native Yucatan people are lovely, friendly, caring, and helpful. Yes, there is a big difference in "scheduling" services, deliveries, and trade work from what you are used to in the USA, but you are not in the USA. Merida is safe with fresh and healthy food, cheap cost of living, and affordable housing or rent. They offer excellent and contemporary utility services. The hospitals and Doctors are top-notch, with many options for healthcare and dentistry available. Nursing in Mexico is a good deal behind what you find in the USA ( actually very antiquated) but you will be safe because the Doctors REALLY earn their money by being available to you 24 hours a day. I am right behind you in getting there as fast as possible.

Please note when Cartess says "family is everything" in Yucatan, he's not talking about the typical conservative idea of what "family" is in the USA. In Yucatan, "family" also means anyone who is important to you, whether it's your best friend, neighbor, doctor, store clerk, etc. And "family" also includes LGBT+ members. As a matter of fact, it's the LGBT+ expat community that made Yucatan a favorite destination to visit and move to, and they are the largest group of expats in Yucatan today and are the leading group that helps charities and refurbishes and saves historical homes. So, don't worry about racial, gender or sexual discrimination in Yucatan. As an American of Yucatecan decent, I can assure you the vast majority of people in my homeland will treat you with respect and only expect the same in return. It's part of our culture and heritage. My husband and I are moving to Merida in the spring of 24' for 7 months until our house is done in Chelem. We cannot wait to leave Florida! So looking forward to everything being different! I hear 'Is it safe?" everytime I tell someone we're moving to MX....it's ridiculous that people want to ignore what is on the news every day here and in every city in the US...Crime, Corruption, mass shootings & Racism! I don't have time to educate everyone with all the research I've done on Mexico and what a beautiful place it is (we had a difficult time choosing which area to live because there are so many beautiful/safe areas. Is it safe? ....yes very safe if you take the same precautions you would take living ANYWHERE. (We don't hang out until 3am and we don't do drugs) People in general in MX are more caring and compassionate then in a lot of countries Everyone is on a hamster wheel in the US chasing something they think they need...and once they get it they need more or something else. Not far from CDMX is Tlaxcala, whose motto is "Tlaxcala,de existe" It is so near to Puebla that often people think it is Puebla. The closest airport is in Puebla. You can get to either place easily. My neighbors found out that I needed help becoming more active and before I knew it I was walking mornings and meeting other neighbors and finding solutions to other problems.

Wow man. You made some really good points. I was seriously considering medellin but im also remembering that feeling of constanlty being a target and the homeless and drug addicts and prostuites in the park ect. I also was in Merida briefly and it was much more calm. At first it didn't really resonate with me because of the circumstances I was in. But you're making me reconsider it. It seemed like the only places that I got to go was staying in the apartment by myself on Christmas and New Year's which was miserable or going to that Walmart near the downtown area so I didn't get a chance to really explore the city

I appreciate you sharing your experiences Cartess. We must learn to forgive ourselves for financial decisions of the past. We are socialized to believe that money is the key to living a great life floss'n with expensive possessions (debt slavery). Been there done that, never again! I'm looking forward to moving and experiencing Mexico and in the process of planning. Your descriptions of Mexico remind me of my past life living on Maui. Once acclimated I realized that Hawaii is very slow which allowed me to decompress but it also taught me a new type of patience. I'm so looking forward to my future, living a slow life in retirement and preferably close to a quiet not so touristy beach town to decompress once again.

You walk in and ask for what you want and you walk out. Easy peazy for most meds. Are you considering a move abroad?

We've struggled with some aspects of mental healthcare here in the USA, and are researching to see if things could be better/easier and more affordable elsewhere. It's rare to find people (black people) sharing transparently about seeking mental healthcare in other countries... so this research is going very slowly. I am the caregiver to two adults, one who could potentially move, and the other who could not because he'd lose his disability housing and nursing benefits. If you have or know of resources along these lines, let me know. We live outside of Atlanta (Coweta county).

@@CoachDonnaMarie Yes, they have that med... It's about $30 bucks at today's exchange rate (Abilify). I don't know of resources you can tap into. We just had to kinda learn as we went. I imagine they got resources but since our spanish is not that strong, we primarily relied on doctors we found. I can give you the contact of a therapist who speaks English and she may be able to share more resources with you. Message her direct on whatsapp: [phone] (she's a cognitive behavorial therapist). Her name is Maria. Tell her I sent you!

From my experience and understanding is that it's actually a spiritual issue as much as it is a mental issue. Therefore, the voices that she hears are actually demonic voices trying to get her to ultimately destroy herself. Jesus Christ Set Me Free from that and He can do the same for your daughter. Cartess, I am in the US and I don't fear going out in public. I encourage you to avoid allowing the media to scare you the way it scares us about Mexico. I plan to move abroad but I honor the sacrifices of my ancestors made in the US. I also don't allow fear to guide my decisions. I've been stopped a couple times but never expected to pay a bribe (at least that's been my experience in Merida). Not so certain about other parts of Mexico.

Stop telling poor black people to go to merida they will starve how can you go to a place with no money you need to tell the whole truth the police here are tough and sometimes you need to pay them off most people don't speak spanish what are you all doing and all your youtube channels need a business permit to work they will catch you and you can go to jail
