@Dol Guldur TOPS also does a differential heat treat so the edge holds spectacularly well while the spine of the blade is tougher so you can baton without it breaking. Heat treat on 1095 makes a world of difference.

@@dolguldur4706I mean 1095 steel is pretty easy to heat treat. As a matter of fact it’s one of the easiest steels to treat treat. Somehow though some companies still manage to f this up,especially the Chinese manufacturers. And what I’ve noticed is that no matter how much money you spend and how good the craftsmanship is the Chinese are completely clueless about steel and how to heat treat it. They’ll use m390 and temper it to hrc58. They’ll quench it in water to lol. Completely clueless.

HUGE ESEE FAN!! Absolutely love all there blades in all shapes and styles. In all honesty you could purchase like 3 different sizes and get something like a spyderco pm2 of benchmade griptillian for the pocket and not need anything else. I’ve got one esee blade strictly dedicated to my cooking kit. One that I keep on my belt and a good medium sized one (forget the name) in my back for cutting wood, carving things out of wood etc etc… also depending on where I’m doing I bring a hatchet or machete. Yeah I stay with that HEAT on me at all times. My one homie has been trying to talk me into the whole neck knife gimmick but ever since I got that small mini esee knife that I can wear sideways along side my belt where nobody can even detect it along with whatever blade I’m keeping in my pocket for that day it makes for a great combo.

I just got the ESEE 4 yesterday. Black coated blade, serrated, graphite linen scales, black Kydex sheath. Totally dig it! Feels great in my hand. I carry the ESEE 4 scout style on my back side, right hand draw. The only bummer is that I was only able to use two of the four mounting screws to attach the sheath to the belt clip for a scout mount. Still feels solid on my belt and draws great. It had to be mounted with the handle slightly up but the weight of the total assembly draws the handle down nearly parallel to my belt -- so no worries. I also have an ESEE Izula 2 that I scout mount on my front belt with a left hand draw. I "identify" as a wood-chipper, so I'm LARPing every day now.

I’m not surprised. I have a RAT-7, and while the companies are different, it’s basically an Esee-6 as far as I can tell. And that thing batoned through a nail on accident, so I think that the basic carbon steel on it is more than strong enough
