The adult cat/female's maternal instincts have kicked in. The kitten wasn't "covered in her saliva", she was CLEANING him! My grandson found a Siamese kitten in a parking lot outside his work. He was a lovely boy. He bonded with my adult male cat. He adopted kitty and took care of him. Slept with him while hugging him. It was beautiful. Taught him to use litter box etc. they are still close and kitten Selkie has grown to a sweet 1 year old.

A couple years ago I rescued an abandoned kitten who was 10 days old. He looked EXACTLY like this kitten except he didn't have a tail and his ears were white. I kept him over the weekend and fed him and everything else, and fortunately found a nursing mother who ended up accepting him so he got a new family. Even though I only had him for 3 days, I still miss that little guy. He went over 24 hours without eating and still made it. He would sleep on my chest most of the time and you always knew when he was going to fall asleep because he would start licking his paws. He was so cute. His little clickety purr was the most adorable thing ever.

Been where you're many times. Allow your cat to be close as you fed the baby. Grown cat will "burp" the baby for you before and after feeding. Your grown kitty is a kitty "mama" and your the human mama. You can all be close as a family taking care f the baby. Enjoy and hand fed babies are special!

While there are occasional cases of false or pseudopregnancy in cats when they lactate, this occurs when the female cat goes into a heat cycle and ovulates but does not become pregnant unless that is but still cannot produce milk but of course that she can protect the kitten but cannot give him milk that it.

Looks like my "resident" female cat when I brought home 3 (3 wk) old kittens. She would not leave them alone, tried to take them away and lick them to death, slept on top of their playpen at night to be near them and if they cried she would jump up and try to find them and take care of them. At first, she was a bit rough but over time she became like their big sister or mother!

All these fools in the comments think that all this kitten needs is to be dragged under the sofa and hidden. Did you read the bit halfway through that says 'Daxi is not lactating'? They are taking the kitten away from Daxi so that it _survives!_ When the kitten is older, able to move around freely and eat solids, then I'd say Daxi can mother him all she wants. Until then you have to be _practical._

Had an abandoned siamese kitten that grew up to be a sweet guy. Found a couple of dumped kitten. The rest of the cats including females were hostile to them. But not ming maow. Sweet thing mothered them making sure none of the other cats hurt them. Uncle minggy as he became continued with other kittens later on. Some cat ❤.
