Can’t someone write a romance story in which the guy is actually a decent human being and don’t need to be “redeemed” by the girl? Girls (and guys) need to know what a healthy and positive relationship looks like.

The book is great yes there are sometimes in the book we’re Tessa is annoying as fuck and Hardin dosnt help much but the reason the book is so popular is because it talks about a toxic relationship instead of a they lived happily ever after blah blah blah story the book shows that people can change for the better witch happens when Hardin stops drinking and shows that love isn’t always easy and always has their ups and downs

Carlota Abilheira for the way the books are written, and I can't explain how i (and many others) know this, that is not what it is about. At all. The worst part is they do get a happy ending. Different ending would've made the book so much better and the message of change on point.

I wish writers would show this relationship as the negative thing it is. If this series was Tessa realizing she deserved better than Hardin, and if she had really held onto that 'this guy hurts me, sure the sex is sex, but he hurts me' and left him, it would've been so much better and sent a healthier message to readers. Personally, I don't really like Noah mostly because of the way he is portrayed as more of a little brother than a boyfriend. Like he basically tattle tales on Tessa for everything she does. Even though Anna Todd only demonized him so Tessa could justify cheating, I still don't think having a little brother for a boyfriend does anyone any good.

Also, I really don't mind this whole redemption thing. I find stories like that very romantic, when they're well written of course. But this...this is toxic. By the way, I am feeling sorry for Tessa's mom...imagine sending your kid to college, paying for it, trusting your kid and instead of paying at least a little attention to the class and reading, they go and do things like that. Sorry for the rant, I am just so frustrated. For some unknown reason, a lot of people seem to like it.

Writers never seem to explore unhealthy relationships in a way that really 'says' anything. It's always, "Ooh, look at how turbulent and hot this is." "Hot" toxicity is fine by me, but you need to let people know that no matter how great the sex is, and how addicted to each other to the two idiots in question are - be they Ana&Christian, Bella&Edward, or these two buffoons - toxic IS FUCKING TOXIC! And there IS no happily ever after!
@anamariaramirez9341 Жыл бұрын
True! But the real question is, as a writer, how to explore unhealthy relationships in a way that "says" something without having to resort to the same old same old about how it's.... unhealthy and they should get out. Let the relationship have nuance! Let it be complicated! Take risks and show how things got to be this way! Relationships have ups and downs, too. Nothing's really static. 🤔

10.5k reads and growing! I decided to write a book that shows what a young woman can go through in a world of topics that aren't really talked about in the fictional Wattpad world. But most importantly I wrote how she is able to get through it and not just cliche-ly fall for someone who never deserved her in the first place. With all the Bella Swans and Anastasia Steel's I flipped the script and made this one a melanin beauty...and turned her into a Queen. My main character doesn’t have much of a choice and has makes the best of her situation until being able to plot an escape but becomes a fighting victim of not only sexual assault but Stockholm Syndrome. In 2015, 17 year old orphan Elena Santiago is managing a not so nurturing foster mother and trying to live peacefully before her 18th birthday. After a night out with her only friend she is left at a night club at 3 A.M. and has no choice but to walk. Her world is changed forever when she is kidnapped and taken to a luxurious whorehouse and given to Andreas Capitani, an Italian Mafia Lorde. Who not only runs the place but has more power than she thought. book is 17+ Any constructive criticism is welcomed! Hope to hear from you! The book is on Wattpad under the username KarmaaLo and you can start with Sanely Insane

Monique du Preez the sad thing is there are SO many good books out there but people always flock to books like this. The ones where instead of spreading a message of “hey this is abuse this is bad” it’s “if you put up with it it’s fine because they’ll change eventually. Even if they hurt you so much that you feel you may never be okay again, give them another chance because they didn’t really mean it” which is such a bad message to send.
@sweetsolitude53035 жыл бұрын
@@claresgotbooks Totally agree. That's mostly why I research the hell out of a book book before I buy it. Authors like these tend to give YA a bad rep and tbh its so sad considering how much potential the genre has. I feel like authors who actually have decent writing ability are generally overshadowed by the toxic ones (fifty shades of grey etc). Maybe because people like ripping into horrible books lol. Honestly I mostly watch these videos for tips on how not to write :P Also lipstick color is amazing btw
@claresgotbooks5 жыл бұрын
Monique du Preez I find that a lot of YA books that have been coming out recently don’t really have good writing. It might be because I’m getting older but a majority of them feel like they’re for a way younger audience. But it’s strange because I’ve been reading a lot of middle grade books, and those are marketed towards younger people than YA is and they’ve been fantastic. In my opinion, After is a New Adult series. It falls just outside of the YA section, but isn’t at the point of being a regular fiction book. It’s more for 20-24 year olds, even though the characters act like they’re four. I’m going to make some positive reviews soon, those are just a bit trickier because when ranting you point out all the flaws because they’re easier to talk about - in my experience at least - and when I like a book it’s harder for me to explain why. But some positive reviews can also help with writing because then you can also see what people like and look for!

I really loved your video it made me laugh i sub ! For the info hardin took abt 5 years to change and hell that was long hah.

There are actually some good books on Wattpad that deserve the be published more than this trashy thing that shouldn’t even be called a book cause it’s so terrible

Right! I'm actually reading a fantasy on Wattpad that absolutely needs to be published (it even won the 2018 Watsy awards), but Wattpad decided to publish a crappy saga about a toxic relashionship instead of that masterpiece (It's not After, but It's kind of its discount italian version)

Writing a fanfiction is one thing. But actually publishing one . . . jesus.
@claresgotbooks2 жыл бұрын
like I wrote fanfic and I am trying to now write it as an actual series to publish but it is so far removed and so very different that you could argue I only used the band for reads. (I've also changed it so much now that the source material is simply a vague inspiration. Plus now it has a plot and I know how to write so it's not cringy) This? It was for people horny for Harry Styles.

It’s amazing that Anna Todd got so many reads when her book is about nothing. They fight, they boink, they fight, Hardin smashes up some stuff, they fight, they boink, they fight, over and over and over for four thick books. By the end, the only character development is that Hardin has progressed from smashing things to arson. What the hell was the point?

"She knows how to get blood out of sheets," Me with a bottle of spot shot: youre fuckin right i do. Seriously. That stuff is the shit. I probably literally would have whipped it out right then and there and been like watch this shit thereby totally ruining hardins psyco plans. But yeah the used condom thing is beyond vomit inducing.

Man, I tried to read this a couple of months ago but I couldn't get more than 2 paragraphs through. It was appalling and I had already started hating Tessa
@kissszonjab4 жыл бұрын
8:31 when you said "cause we're all 4" I thought that was part of the book and I'm like, oh that's actually a funny inner diologue for Tessa... then I replayed it and realized its not.... nevermind then. But that was funny so 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
@claresgotbooks4 жыл бұрын
I wish Tessa was that funny omg. I’m reading 50 Shades and I laugh so much because the narrator is so funny. Why couldn’t Tessa be like that?!
@kissszonjab4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think the books would have been so much better if she was funny instead of judgemental af. Like in Harry Potter, sassy Harry really makes up for him being a dumbass. I haven't read 50 shades, but now I just might. And its also why rant reviews like this are so funny, people are like look at this, what the fuck is this?
