Enjoyed your video. I use many of the same ideas that you do, pack items up by room or location, use clear totes, use plastic bags for unbreakable items, etc. I generally take my decorations down the day after Christmas, but this year I decided to take down one room each day starting today. Sometimes it seems so stark to take down everything at once. We will see how it goes this year. I do store all my "soft goods" like table runners, Christmas quilts, throws, tree skirts, stockings all together in one tote.

I dont decorate much because of my cats and new puppy but my brother gifted me Christmas village stuff so I have a pretty setup of that along with some pictures I picked up. Im debating on putting them up because they the village is winter themed so thinking of keeping it out longer. When I did put up a tree I usually put it up a few days after Christmas. I think the last time I put one up I took it down the 26. I loved the tip about taking photos of how things are set up so you remember the next year. I did that. My village it set up perfectly. Loved all the tips you showed.

I leave my Christmas decorations up until I really feel like taking them down, and then just a few at a time. It never made sense to me to take away the beautiful, soft lighting at the darkest time of the year. My husband and I are retired (and living in Italy) and we just love sitting and enjoying the beauty of Christmas for as long as we can.

I don't do the 3 yr rule because I change up Decore every year! I use large plastic trash cans for my garlands. I circle it around in the bottom and stack my wreaths on top! The lids are rounded up, not flat, so I can stack in several wreaths on top. Keeps it all tidy and safe!

I’m an 81 yo lady! My three children have families that keep on going! Ex, and ex-exs, so I’m shuffled to whenever time to visit! I’m not complaining , just explaining my CHRISTmas decoration! I went through all my decorations and throwed out any decorations that held NO memories whatsoever! I have an 8 year old counter size tree with LED lights and runs on batteries!! I decorated it once and for all! When its time to remove, I put a king size pillow case over it and carry it to my large closet, put it on the top shelf! Next year I go get it off the shelf , uncover it and place it back on the table in the living room! I have a small Nativity set my Mother gave me before she passed and that’s brought out every year! When I pass away I won’t care what happens because these are all my memories❣️

My mother said Christmas had to be down prior to the New Year. "Can't bring the old year into the new". I'm now 81 and my decorations are less but when I undecorate a tree, I put ornaments in plastic bags. Birds in one, animals, fruit, wood, and glass ornaments in others. Nature theme/partridge! Then I grab each bag and start with the birds and space them around the tree. Same with others. Tree is evenly decorated. Of course put them away the same method. Storage is hard. No garage or attic so they are in plastic bins (not clear) in separate closets. Enjoy your channels. A newbie.

For those who don’t decorate because of the hassle, here’s an idea from Mary Lutkenhaus: Clear out home decor to make space and “negative” space, and create one showstopper display per room. Period. Personally, I like to have seasonal décor throughout a room and throughout my home to draw the eye to different areas and provide a cohesive look, but others may prefer simplified decoration. However, I feel that being decoration-free is a missed opportunity for a little more joy. In this day and age, we can all use a little more joy. :-)

Good idea for twinkle lights......taking it one step farther....label where you used that on the roll, KEEP a running list as to what size and the amount of batteries you need. How about keeping all the little lights in one bin then they can be used year round.

I used to get the blues so bad it would lead to SAD/ depression. I figured out if I left my decorations up until I was sick of looking at them and wanted my space back, I had much less depression /SAD symptoms after I took them down. I've been doing this for the last several years and it really helps. Yes, they are up until the 3rd week of January but my son's Birthday is Jan 27th so it gives me a week to get them down and his birthday planned and ready to go. Works like a charm.

Before I retired I would take all my Christmas decor down right after Christmas because that's the only time I had before I went back to work. I continued that for a few years just because it was my habit. This year I'm loving all the decor so much and I realized there's no Christmas decor police that are going to come tell me I have my decorations up too long. LOL so I think I'm leaving up a lot of it till mid-January or whenever the mood strikes me. As another commenter said it's always sad when all the twinkling beautiful stuff comes down. And January is sort of dreary. So I'm giving myself permission to enjoy twinkly lights as long as I wish. Thank you so much for your cheerful channel.

We leave decorations up until about Valentines Day bc winter is dark and dreary and it's so relaxing. I put away santas and reindeer, but not the nativity, snowmen, angels, etc. Then we switch the plugged in tree lights from colored to white (both stay on the tree) and add hearts. flowers, birds. A friend throws a plastic bag over the tree to put in storage, and doesn't bother to remove the decor except for special or fragile items. I can't relate to most people's holiday traditions anymore. Easy way with garlands is pegboard and hooks, I love it. Silk flowers are stored upright in a shelf much like a wine rack- very easy to see and access to use more often. Thanks for all the tips!

I don’t usually put a tree up. We have an empty nest now. But I keep holiday decorations up in the window, on the lawn and throughout the house for Christmas and for every major holiday until about a week after the holidays end. During the fall & winter season it helps to brighten up the household and windows. My window silhouettes light up. If I start back to putting up a tree for my grandkids I will cover and store it with the lights and decorations kept on it for an easier set up for the following Christmas. Thanks for sharing your video 👍

Love your smartly designed attic storage. My holiday storage is the basement. My attic is too hard to access. For large wreaths, I buy an inexpensive shower curtain liner and wrap it around the wreath I store on a hanger. Love the tip about taking photos. That is also a good way to stop acquiring more decor because you can see every surface you have decorated and won’t be tempted to buy more.

My table top trees i leave decorated, wrap with a dust cover and d put on a shelf. Christmas village has 2 shelves. Miscellaneous angels have a shelf. And nativity sets have 2 shelves. Another set of shelves on casters fot the actual trees, wrapped in sheets and labeled, one tree per shelf. We have lots of decor, & we definitely use that donate if not used after a few yrs rule. However, most of our stuff we've been collecting & reusing for over 40+ years, so as we decorate there's a story behind each ornament & whatnot, which we're sharing with grandchildren now. I bought my children ornaments each year as they grew up for our tree (like my parents did), & now as adults it's time to separate theirs to give them so they can put on their own trees. It'll make my tree a bit bare next year, but I love knowing that a 3rd generation is following that same tradition. All our decorations & holiday decor go to our basement (there's an area for each holiday). They're stored as followed: lights (bins), ornaments (specialty bins), trees (original boxes), village items (several bins with the houses inside their original pkgs), stocking holders & other decor (bins), 2 wreaths & garland (specialty tote, bin, & garment bag), wrapping paper/ribbon/bows (specialty totes/bins). It's a lot of work, but with a bit of care everything has lasted for many years & the best memories 💙!

I enjoyed your video. One suggestion I would add is to wire your decorations onto your skinny tree. Wrap it up in plastic to keep it from getting dusty and put it in your attic. Several years ago I did this for my skinny tree and it's such a time saver.

I like to leave my decorations up till the end of January. They take so long to get up and I live in the northeast so it helps to make the winter a little shorter and cozier. I love to light a fire and look at the glow of the tree. I usually start by taking down the things that scream Christmas first, like the nativity, Santas, elves, etc. the tree is usually last. It’s a gradual process. We cut a fresh tree and I don’t put it up till the week before at the earliest so it stays pretty good till the end of January. I love the garment bag idea. I’m giving that a try this year. My stuff all goes in my basement which is dry and I have a storage shelf system similar to your attic one. I collect vintage Christmas so I have a lot and my motto is just because you have a lot doesn’t mean you have to put it all out. You can save some for other years and do something a little different, just don’t save stuff you don’t really love or has meaning to you.

I start to slowly take down my decorations after Christmas. All are stored by the day after New Years Day. My Christmas decorations, breakables, tinsel, small packets of Christmas lights etc store well in Christmas boxes of all sizes. (The ones normally used for gifts with Christmas pictures on them). They go into a cupboard in my garage and I know at a glace that my Christmas decorations are stored in them. I put notes in the boxes as to where I had the decorations the previous Christmas. I really like how you stored the Christmas paper in the garment bag. I am going to do this.

I use painter's tape too to label totes! My husband is a pack rat so this helps rather than having to open a dozen totes looking for something. We store Christmas decor in the basement coal bin (that is a closed off area in the basement in older homes here in Ohio for back in the older days when coal was shoveled in to heat the home). Now it is all shelves and storage area.

I use large wheeled outdoor plastic garbage cans. I used to live in a two story house, & the decorations were stored in a damp old basement. Make sure your cans do NOT have drip slit! It’s so cans won’t fill up with rain. I use 2-plastic drum liner garbage bags inside. I use grocery plastic bags to protect & wrap things in. Use the gallon baggies to prevent moisture & mold damage. I haven’t had anything broken in 47 years. Use white duct tape on exterior of can to label, using permanent marker. 1-Tree: stand, 2 by 4 lumber pieces to place cross cross in stand to support. 2-Lights/garland/tree skirt/topper 3-Ornaments: in clear ornament containers inside. 4-Decor items 5-Larger decor items 6-Outside: decor smalls/lights, etc. Wreaths: I use 2-clear drum liners to protect, & store in wreath zip bags, but for my huge outdoor ones, they lie on top garbage cans. I hated carrying all those tubs up & down steps, because I have a major back issue. With the cans on wheels, it’s so easy! L❤️VE your tips! I ALWAYS learn from you. Thank you both. You’re a great team.

I am a retired elementary teacher and have seasonal decorations that I use throughout the year. I have tubs labeled Autumn, Winter. My Christmas items have their own tubs labeled Tree and Not Tree. I liked your idea of using the empty Christmas decor containers to hold the regular items in but that wouldn't work for me because I will be transitioning from Christmas in later January to just winter. I have various vases and non holiday items that just end up in spare bedrooms and so far it has worked fine.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I'm amazed that I'm using almost every hint and tip you just shared with us! Only thing is, I do not waste my money on buying those totes. I reuse my product boxes and I'm having the most joyous time decorating those boxes gradually. I have learned how to decoupage old Christmas cards onto boxes and it's changing my life! I'm able to go back in time and memory reading some of the beautiful cards that people wrote to me over the years. It's especially nice to see my mother`s and father's handwriting, as they passed years ago. I also recently downsized and had to re-label a lot of my boxing and it has helped me organize them even better to have less to put out. I have a snowman box, a Santa box, a Garland box, a stairs box, a box for DVD's and CD's, and lots of Christmas tree ornament boxes. I did buy my first fairy lights this year and I appreciate your method of storing them although I usually put things back in original boxing. I am very slow to take down my Christmas decorations. It takes so long to put them up and I try to enjoy them for at least two months. But no longer do I keep them up to Valentine's Day hahaha.

I put my decorations away after New Years except this year we are leaving for a month 😜 Love you and pray for you. I store my garland in a zip up collapsible laundry holder. They are round and the garland fits nicely in them. I’m changing everything over because they are so lite and easier to carry from the basement as I age 😩

Oh, my goodness! Why are you taking all that beautiful Christmas Decore down already?? It's too early! You did such an awesome job decorating and now you.re taking it down so soon? I like to leave mine up til the new year just because it takes long to put it all up and also because I love the lights, I store all my ornaments back into their original boxes. no mixing them up. When someone gives me an ornament, I place them in small Christmas decorative boxes but wrap them with tissue first. I do use all clear containers like you do and label like you do. Been doing that for a few years and I agree, it does help a lot. I store mine in an entry way closet. Not enough space in the house, besides, we live in Florida, and we don't need the entry way closet for coats. LOL Enjoyed your video as always. Hope you and Jason have a Spectacular New Year! Love you guys.

I like the tip for see through containers. I'll be able to recognize things. Also the wrapping paper in the garment bag clears up clutter. Thanks for sharing!

Great video! I am from Lower Bavaria in Germany and we usually take it down one day after ‚Three Kings Day‘ which is a public holiday on the 6th of January.

I take all Christmas things down after Jan. 6th but leave my snowmen scenes up and my village. I live in a winter state so they go well and are cute to look at on gray days.

I decorate more for winter than Christmas specially so the decorations stay up thru February

I love your gift wrap in the garment bag! What a great idea. I have an actual plastic tote made for storing gift wrap, but the way you hang them would save me a lot of space. Great video! I actually hadn't thought of putting my wreaths in a garment bag either. I have hooks on the wall where I store them individually in storage, but - again - the garment bags would save me some space. THANKS! P.S. I just took everything down today (mostly because I had the time and next weekend is too busy). Since I always put my tree up around Thanksgiving, I definitely enjoyed the time with it and am now feeling nice and freshly cleaned/de-cluttered out now that things are back to non-Christmas time. I always do a seasonal mantle display and so I changed over my Christmas mantle to a wintery one today also (which I referred to a picture from last year to start with - very helpful).

I leave my decorations up for the most of January. I love Christmas and all the coziness that comes with it. I do this because of the way I work. I work seven days away and then I am home for seven days.

I love to see the decor up in my living room. We leave it up until at least Epiphany (January 6) and this year until the Presentation ( February 2). Its pretty and cheerful. Great tips for the wrapping paper and lights.

De-decorated on January 3, 2022 this year. My place looks so clean and fresh now. Changed some of the furniture around as well. Nice start to the year. Cheers

I found putting a quick label for the container and put it on 3 our of the 4 sides of the bin inside so you can see it outside.

I plan on leaving it up for maybe another week.

I use the empty wrapping paper rolls (tubes) to cover the partial wrapping paper rolls. Just slice all the way down the length of the empty roll. Then, open it up to fit the partial roll inside. It protects the ends of the wrapping paper. If you already discarded your empty tubes, try your empty paper towel tubes.

Someone may have said this already, but in colder climates, painters tape (and labels) will come off bins. I recommend good duct tape instead. I store my decor in the garage. Also I use a large bin for outdoor decor and another for party trays, bowls, etc. That way I don’t bother dragging in party items until I need them.
