Emily need to held her brother James accountable for his actions, and also distance herself from her parents who didn't believe her, and let them all deal with the consequences, and outcome of their actions for not believing their daughter.

Everything is about trust…spouses and parent/children relationships. When a parent disregards years of their own efforts of parenting to believe an outsider … that is their own failure as a parent. They should always take the side of the child before anyone else. In this case, OP’s father broke trust with his daughter time and time again.

As Emily said, her dad REPEATEDLY chose to blindly believe James & never listened to her side despite of knowing how/who he raised her to be. Yeah, the stepbrother did con/trick him, but there comes a point where you need to take a step back, look at the whole picture & go “hold on, something’s not adding up here…” 😒
