I always spend like a year between doing animation, and I have to come back to this video to refresh my memory. I need to animate consistently enough to remember the process! But the video has been continuously helpful. I used to use a plug in that was very buggy, and this process is much much better.

Cool tip! Waiting for more tutorials ;) I recommend to create NULL to control Lip Sync. Link your Lip-sync composition to rotation of that Null (you have to divide by framerate in expression). Now you can use plus and minus on your keyboard with null selected to switch between different mouths.
@LeeDanielsART8 жыл бұрын
Haha, I'm actually going to cover that in a 'part 2' tutorial. Not the + or - part though. That's new to me so thank YOU for that tip! ;)
@adameskoo8 жыл бұрын
Hah, happy to hear that :) btw I have a different question : i create my animation in after effects' 3d space. I find it easier to handle layers depth in scene in 3d then regular 2d way. I use puppet tool for legs and arms but sometimes it gives me unexpected results in elbows/knees areas, and also i cant scale the whole character because of quality loss (normal vector/shapes are ok, but puppet tool convert them to bitmap). I thought about using RubberHose, but it doesnt work in 3d space. Could you give me some advice for that project?
@LeeDanielsART8 жыл бұрын
I use my characters a lot in 3D space too, but I always pre comp them, rather than using the actual effected (puppet tool, Duik etc.) layers as 3D layers. For the scaling issue, I always storyboard up front, so I know the maximum size I'll need an asset, then I just make sure I create that asset in at least 1.5 times the size I'll need it at it's largest. Unfortunately, Ae's 3D button does strange things to a lot of effects, so on complex jobs, I nearly always pre comp first. Hope that helps!

This tutorial is a lifesaver, thank you! I had a few issues at first because I was trying to copy and paste in the code, which After Effects didn't like for some reason. So I just typed it in as shown. (For me, it works best if I type "ae" instead of "a.")

In after effects, i'm always so amazed these things are possible, and at the same time so mad they aren't easier😂 Thank you so much for this tut❤

Awesome method! Though I get a weird bug - after exporting into H.264 file the mouth stays on the first keyframe and just flashes for 1 frame to a different mouth-shape... It's all good in the composition preview or even if I export in half the resolution... For some reason it happens only on the full resolution, which is the native resolution for the clip. Any ideas?
