Love your videos!!! Can you tell me how you study while in residency? Do you have any resources you use daily, or do you answer questions? I'm struggling with finding a routine to stick to. Thank you.

@Clementina, thanks for your comment. So in my first year the main studying I did was step 3 prep and getting myself acquainted with the AAFP journal articles (mainly for FM residents). Now in 2nd year I read the journal articles monthly, or whenever they’re released, and then I do practice questions with AAFP old board exam questions and supplement with Uptodate. I try to do like 10-15 questions a day if possible. Nothing crazy, definitely not doing crazy intensive studying like in medschool. I bought Uworld subscription for the boards in my 2nd year, so I do questions whenever I’m free. I learn better with questions, passive reading not my favorite thing to do. Hope that helps. Take care.

Dr G you are a great inspiration and I'm excited to watch you videos to see your MD journey. I'm 46 right now and have worked as an NP for last 10 years. Unfortunately, it is not feasible for me to start the process of applying to medical school at this juncture in my life. There are not very many residencies for NP and the ones available only take new grads. How would recommend changing specialities as an NP or how does one NP go about that?

Hello Richard, thank you so much! I understand the frustration of NP programs just having residencies mainly for new grad. Now when it comes to changing specialties as an NP, I think your best option would be getting a post master’s certificate in the specialty of your choice. It usually takes about 12-18 months for most programs. To use myself as an example, I was initially board certified as FNP, but I went for a 1 yr Post masters program at the University of Texas for ENP, I was then able to switch to emergency medicine. When you do the post masters program, you’ll also be able to do the required clinical rotations for that specialty and also sit for the specialty certification exam as well. I hope this answers your question. Best of luck to you!
