I can strongly recommend you do EVERYTHING they tell you to do. As much as Chemo and Radiation is not pleasant, these things will help. They are exactly what I was told to do and they were a great help to me. Yes my mouth is dry but it's getting better. Yes solid food is difficult but it's getting better. Yes my memory is a bit dodgy, but heck I'm still here .....

I had an extra problem : because my meningioma affected my cerebellum and one vagus nerve I also have reflux and had vomiting before and during radiation. So as well as swallowing difficulties I also could not eat dairy and fats among other things and often threw up what I had taken ages to slowly eat (for a couple of months I could not swallow anything other than seived liquids). It took 6 months for my weight loss to stabilise and I ended up with osteoporosis. The good news is that my swallowing is 90% better (one year later), my voice is returning and my weight is still stable. The reflux is stable with treatment and limiting my diet.

Please do a video about long term radiation side effects. 11/2 years after treatment, I have significant hearing loss, damage to my left optic nerve and, memory problems. At times I have trouble concentrating. I had squamous cell carcinoma of the parotid gland in summer of 2016.

hi. what precautions were taken by the radiological team? did they make you a helmet to wear during treatment?
@arthur15434 жыл бұрын
Tim Mosso's Sunglasses No precautions were taken except to drink a lot of water and minimize my sun exposure. I had to wear a mask to immobilize my head during treatment.

sorry but this is rather nonsensical, since throat cancer after treatment makes a person unable to eat, swallow and eating solids, is not even an item.

Did you watch the whole video? Did you get a feeding tube put in? I did on both. Although my body rejected the feeding tube and it got infected and my formular was changed 4 times before they found one that my body could handle. I had to force myself to eat. I never lost the ability to swallow totally although 5 months after treatments stopped I still can't eat meats because they are just too dry and tasteless. The texture of many foods I loved is unbearable. Thanksgiving I was able to eat a little dark meat turkey, sweet and white potatoes all with lots of gravy, corn, and canned green beans. I am just now noticing my saliva glands working a little better which will help me be able to eat without having to sip water to swallow the food. Yes throat cancer is terrible, we have a lot of side effects to deal with, and not everyone suffers to the extent of others. I lived on cream of mushroom soup, low sodium V8 juice, tomato soup, Ramen noodles, milk, instant breakfast, club soda( for the terrible flem stuck in my throat) and lots of Ensure!! I lost 44 lbs so far during the ordeal. Please try to look for positive things to help you get through this! My family grew closer helping me through this. My arthritis disappeared during my treatments, but they are coming back now 4 months after I finished treatment. I am now working in my garden again with extra energy. And so far I beat the throat cancer!!! Wishing you the best and hang in there. I know a lot of information doesn't pertain to us all. Take what does work.
