I'm a cat lover and grew up with one and have had other cats during my life. When greeting a cat or kitten there is a friendly meow you can use when you greet them it's like:- mirOW. The sound starts low then it ends a little higher. When seeing a strange cat I make that sound and the cat calms and will repeat it back using that little vibration in their vocal cords. Then let them catch your sent with the back of your hand loosely with your fingers tucked under toward your palm. If the cat doesn't hiss or growl you can touch and pet the cat. If the cat hisses or growls back off a little. Talk to the cat and try and reassure it that you mean no harm. Giving a hungry cat food like you do is excellent. Thank you for feeding and care of these lovely creatures. An angry cat can bite your finger down to the bone.
