The FL says at the wedding that it doesn't matter if the groom doesn't show up, because she only went through with the marriage to get a position in the hospital where she works. The grandfather only suggested the wedding to repay her kindness when she saved him during a heart attack. So we're told right away that it's an arranged marriage. There are zero feelings involved, so if the bride and groom never meet, it shouldn't matter.
