To keep the engine from overheating, you need to knock out the freeze plugs and do some serious flushing of the block because it is a 100% guarantee that the water jacket is plugged with rust and core sand. I own 2 Studebakers and worked in a Studebaker garage years ago and flushing out the block was SOP when resurrecting an old Studebaker engine. Also be sure to replace the self adjusting plugs that fit into the brake shoes. If you don't replace those brass plugs, you will never be able to properly adjust the brakes. The Studebaker Rear wheel bearings are not lubed from the differential oil and have to be repacked by hand periodically. Do not try to grease the bearings through the ports on the axle flanges as it is guaranteed that you will pump grease all over the brake shoes ruining them. Ask me how I know about that.

My great grandmother had a Studebaker Champion and I remember riding in it. That was 1957 and 58. It was a light pea green.

A lot of the old cars were built for a lifetime but they didn't say how many lifetimes. Now you can see when they meant lifetime it was more than one. Today it's so long they get out of the factory door they don't care after that!

These old cars may be expensive if you are getting all new parts. But a lot of things are rebuildable.

Great you got er going. Hope youl find a.tail pipe and muffler for her. It's nice gramps is able to ride along with you! Try and find karskin reconditioned. You pour a a quarter size drop on a clean damp wash cloth and it removes oxidation. Comes on green emerald can. Youl have to add kerosene to reconstitute it because it will be so old. Happy tinkering!

Little rubbing compound and a buff might bring the paint back to life. Pop that dent out of the door and that would be a respectable summer cruiser

You can hone the master-cylinder on the frame. I did that on my 53 Pontiac. The same for the wheel-cyinders on the backing plates.
