This was a fun analysis into Pinkie's character, as it should be. Pinkie, to me, represents the part of me that wants to be more fun and uses her imagination to her advantage so many times. And for me, it's hard being little Ms. Fun because I have to handle reality on a daily basis. In fact, now that I think about it, I see a lot of Pinkie and her sisters in myself: Maud's monotony, Limestone's aggression, Marble's quiet nature, and Pinkie's joy for life as it happens. I've noticed while writing that the only natural way to write exposition is to introduce a character that has no experience with the world around them (which can get old fast) or a comic relief character that points out things like that. Of course, a third option is to disperse all the exposition like sprinkles all over the place, but that is WAY harder, especially in certain contexts.

@@allenholloway5109 Another option is to hint at the context, but then let the reader witness it first-hand. This is even more difficult but it can allow a viewer or reader to gain an understanding through personal investment. I think it's a very powerful approach.

@@MLPSilverQuill Good point. While probably not feasible for *all* the information you might need to convey, that would be particularly powerful for the most important parts. Though now that I think about it, I've seen a story that if I remember correctly, does that for ALL the exposition - The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Sure, the characters involved know nothing about Narnia, but it is never really explained to them all at once, either. It is hinted at, then shown through direct use. And in later books in that series, new information seems to be introduced in the same manner. Even if the protagonists were natives, it would have still worked, I think. Like in The Horse and His Boy. I don't quite think this would work with all possible stories, but it is a much superior method.

with "the Fool" being in the title of this analysis, I can't help but think of the tarot. Now, I currently have just started watching the video, so I don't know if you already mentioned this or not, but I'd like to bring up the meaning of the tarot's Fool card The Fool is numbered 0, the number of unlimited potential, which Pinkie Pie certainly has. She is unpredictable, and really could do almost anything. She is completely versatile, and a jack/jill of all trades. The Fool symbolizes opportunity, curiosity, excitement, and following your heart. This, again, is a great descriptor for Pinkie. The Fool means that there is so much that you can do, so much that is possible, and you just have to take that step forward to do what you want, which Pinkie easily does numerous times. Sorry for the nerding out, and if you do mention this in the video, I didn't know when I wrote this comment, so I apologize for that too, just thought this was interesting.

Applejack is the "Essence of Integrity". -> It has nothing to do with "Truth", lies, deception or judgement (that is for the "Essence of Determination", Rainbow Dash´s stuff). The "magical gems" were named by Celestia (in a book that she wrote that _"starts with an E"_ ), based on what she "felt" when channeling magic "in harmony" through each of them (the correct term was "attunement", as Starswirl later explained). Celestia had NO IDEA of the origins of the Crystal Tree she found growing "in the basement" of the Castle she shared with her sister; previously the "base of operations" for the Pilars of Equestria (that she never even met); assuming it was a "(super) natural being" of some kind, just like Discord is an "spirit of nature". Twilight just assumed the text in the book was correct (if she ever found out that Celestia wrote it, even more!); never considering doing serious basic magical research on the objects [that may had prevented later the cutiemark swap of Magical Mystery Cure]; keeping the established naming for each "rock" & designating their current "bearers" as they seemed to fit better.

My favorite thing about Pinkie Pie is ironically, her creation as G4 was in production. Lauren Faust and the FiM Crew took all that made Comic Relief characters the most Insufferable people in any Cartoon show and turned them all on their heads. What resulted was One of the best Examples of how a Comic Relief character could be done to A T. Pinkie Pie's success also resulted in Gravity Falls' Mabel Pines, another example of Fantastic Comic Relief character. Nice analysis Silver.

Now who was the first and last to introduce themselves to Twilight in Ponyville? It also can mean mysteries that surrounds life. And which of the mane 6 do we have more questions about then Pinkie? We will never know the answers, but we can't help but ask when it comes to her. And that in a way is the fool. Asking "Why?"

That was a good analysis! With the comparison between the Fool and the Trickster, you made me realize an interesting point. While Discord is the most obvious portrayal of the trickster, it seems like there is also a fair bit of the trickster in Rainbow Dash, and that combination of the fool and the trickster is part of what makes Pinkie and RD work so well when they're paired together in episodes.

Hearing you talk about addiction being one of the darker aspects to the fool's personality had me thinking...I've seen something similar in another "fool" character. But he's not the sidekick/supporting character, he's the main lead of his series. I'm, of course referring to Monkey D. Luffy; the aspiring pirate king from One Piece. Like Pinkie Pie; he's almost always happy, loves having a great time with friends, laughs/smiles a lot, loves to eat a lot and looks at the world in a way that not many of his friends seem to understand. But at the same time, HIS addiction isn't just eating; it's also his love of adventure. No matter how dangerous the journey is or how hazardous whatever island him and his crew land on might be, he wants to dive into adventure at any given opportunity. The only difference here between him and Pinkie are how their friends might react to this behavior. In Luffy's case; when his friends get upset with him, they viciously beat him up (resulting in him looking like he'd almost been mauled.) Whereas with Pinkie...her friends and other creatures might be bothered by her behavior, at times but they never hurt her

Vinsmoke Judge turn his children into sadist super soldier in order to restore Germa, while Big Mom use most of her children for political marriage as her chess piece to become king of pirate; these two families pissed me off due to their behaviour and I almost fell into the dark side because those reason similar with Dressora Arc. But I still continue to watch Wano Arc once they finish the whole arc in the manga the least, because the pacing is so slow and is a torture for me to watch one episode for every week.

I can actually relate a lot to Pinkie Pie. I also see things from a different perspective than most and often try to make light of it. I usually don't comment on anything but I've seen so many takes on yakkity sax that I think miss the point. And yeah, I will fault the episode for poor execution/writing for that. However, what Twilight says to Pinkie is important, "We just don't want you to waste time on something you're not good at." Followed by the ending with the Yavidiphone player stating that Pinkie's playing was beautiful because it brought her joy. How many times have people been discouraged from hobbies, especially in the arts, because they aren't 'good' at them? Culturally we seem to place so much weight on if you can make money at a hobby or not, or if you're good at it or not, that we've lost the idea that sometimes hobbies are just about enjoyment. Even the hobbies we're bad at and that's okay. What Pinkie needed in that episode was boundaries, when and where she could play, not to be shut down and told she should stop playing because she was bad at it and was wasting her time. Otherwise I really enjoyed this. Thank you for your hard work!

But when flutters was too kind to criticize, that was the start of the conflict, because then pinkie thought she was great and got blinded by enthusiasm simultaneously.

I honestly feel I can relate really well with pinky and you helped phrase it best with her being the fool. She and I play hard to get people's laughter and happiness out of them even when we ourselves are struggling. we have the horrible habit of expecting that we are expected to be happy 24/7 and so then run ourselves into the ground with no end goal in sight in the name if others happiness. The best way to break out of it is to realize taking a break from always being happy is actually healthy and that sometimes it's good for the other person to be the one giving you cheer back. I remember a different definition of the fool though. That is a character who makes the situation worse but is not connected to the villain or any other major thing. Just a stupid person who was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Such as if a messenger needs to deliver a very important letter but he get's murdered by a thief who just wanted to steal his valuables and had no idea of the letter.

I recently came up with a character (sort of accidentally-on-purpose) and made an odd, funny looking, sunshine Bat Pony/Earth Pony hybrid called Tomato Twist whose colours make her look like a red & green tomato (red body with leaf green legs), with cross-eyes (similar to Derpy's), which are rainbow coloured & bright green spiky/wavy mane & tail, she also wears a blue & purple fake unicorn horn party hat, I imagine her personality to be a blend of Pinky Pie's fun-loving & comedic nature with Fluttershy's Shy & skittish nature (perhaps to the point of having a bit of a split personality & identify crisis...) she also has an obsession with 'Zap Apples', I think the ponies she'd get on most with would be Pinky Pie, Fluttershy & eventually Applejack (after a possible misunderstanding)
