First, I'm super happy that everyone is good and that the damage isn't as bad as I expected after the previous video. I understand the whole hindsight is 20/20 thing but I truly believe that accidents create the best learning opportunities. So if there's an easy way to prevent similar accidents from happening in the future, the whole aftermarket / race car scene should probably agree as a group to implement that solution on all their race cars. Maybe there's a better solution out there but I believe that a simple flash arrestor in the fuel tank vent would have prevented this fire. The crazy thing is, I've never heard of anyone building a flash arrestor into their aftermarket fuel system so I'm not saying you should have done this. The problem with preventative safety is that when it works, nothing happens. So no one even knows that a catastrophe was just averted.

Hey, I noticed the gas tank edges were butt welded, if your fold a lip on the edges of the tank, or fold the ends into a pan that slides into the tank, you can use a stronger Lap weld, and should the weld blow out, the folded lip will still partially block the opening rather than a large gap spilling all the fuel at once. Hoping for a speedy repair and glad youre all safe.

It totally sucks that this happened but you all were extremely lucky that no one was injured, the shop was not damaged, and the damage to Sho’Nuff was worse than it is. In a strange way you all were lucky this most unfortunate event happened at the shop where you had fire extinguishers and water. I have seen several cars, trailers, and tow rigs get burned up at the track as a result of crowded tight pits combined with people frozen like deer looking into headlights rather than grabbing the fire extinguisher out of their truck or trailer and lending a hand putting out the fire. That all said the best thing you can do for Sho’Nuff was doing what you did is washing off the dry chemical fire extinguisher residue. I highly recommend you give Sho’Nuff another good bath. It sounds as if you guys are also using this incident as a learning experience for just in case there is a next time. Besides adding more or bigger/better fire extinguishers and a hose for methanol based fires and something to quickly cut the straps holding the car down might I recommend you not store any unnecessary fuel or other flammable chemicals of any sort near the dyno. I know that might be a pain in the butt however just think of the consequences of not doing that. Additionally no one should ever park in front of either Dyno Bay just incase you have to push a burning car outside. Lastly comes how do you prevent something like this from happening again and the best thing I can think of is to always blow the engine compartment out or run a fan before crank on a car to avoid having a pocket of fumes build up and be ignited by a backfire, or some other flame or heat source. Myself I have had a small engine bay fire several years back due to a fuel leak that I had fixed the night before and had thought all of the gasoline that has leaked has evaporated overnight. That night was cold and the thermostat in the shop was set to 40 degrees and the heater was running when I opened my shop that morning. As my usual I cranked the heat to warm the shop up had a cup of coffee and called customers etc. Anyway the warming of the shop by cranking the heat up got the residual fuel to start vaporizing again and I lit a hand held Map-Gas torch to put a little heat on a crusty O2 sensor which ignited the fuel vapors that were in the frame rail of the car which in turn singed my beard, hair, and the hair on my right hand/forearm. Luckily I was wearing my eye glasses which also are safety glasses so my eyes, eyelashes and eyebrows did not singed. The damage to car fortunately only a little bit of burned paint in the engine compartment and burnt wires and heater hoses. One last thing when you reinstall the fuel cell have you thought about relocating or extending the vent for the fuel cell to get it farther away from the turbo

I'm so heart broken over this situation. Been looking forward to your success with this project. Glad to see/hear that, other than pride, no one got hurt. Even better to see you guys jump right back into it. You are all handling this better than most people would. Excellent display of integrity. All the the best to you guys. Looking forward to see this thing rip.

Hey, you got a great team to keep you on track Brett. This would be so hard to come back from with no one to help, even maybe make someone never want to build a car again. But you got a great team that wants to help and get it going again. SHO NUFF!!

I'm glad it wasn't any worse. You guys will bounce back, you always do. There couldn't have been a better team to handle what happened or to rebuild the car. I'm sure you'll have it running and on the dyno again soon!

I'm glad everyone is okay. The last video freaked me out because I thought Steven was on fire. One step closer and it could have been bad. This woke me up to things like this. On the good side, I got my 1g dsm almost together and it is looking wicked as hell.

Great reaction and communication by all of you and managed to save sho'nuff. Time to implement more safety plans to minimize any fire incidents in the future. I know for a fact sho'nuff will be up and running in no time. You guys make an awesome team and you all work great with each other. That's one thing I love about PFI speed team. Let's go!! 🤙🤙
