After the Flood | Check on the Cabin

It's been a long time coming. We stumbled upon the opportunity to purchase this off grid cabin in remote northern Maine. This will be a huge project to improve the road and renovate the cabin inside and out.
In July, just before I bought the cabin I was hospitalized and diagnosed with diverticulitis and an intestinal abscess. This infection made me lose weight and strength and I'm still slowly recovering. I will be building a new cabin starting in the spring of 2024.

We got all messed up in Northern NH also. Boats, snowmobiles and trailers, propane tanks and a water truck all went floating down the Androscoggin.

Maybe source some screened stone 3" or so to put down then finer gravel on top to fill into the stone to slow erosion the next storm, but then again maybe its the weak link and that gravel wash helped ease the pressure on the bridge. We have chained wooden bridges in attempts to keep them from washing down stream, We just got off 6 days with out power.

Where I live they make a bridge to allow the approaches to wash out first to save the bridge. It’s easier to replace the gravel than the bridge.

Looks good at the cabin. I have a remote cabin and like to check on it too. In the winter its hard to get to some sometimes its a couple months i cant get there. My main concern is wind storm damage.

As they say, " It could have been a lot worse" I am thinking you were hoping a tree landed on the cabin. That would have given you a head start on taking it down. I am glad you are not stuck with too much cleanup, which would take up a lot of your time for progress on the cabin.
