I was recently in a dealership bouncing around prices for different ski’s. I told the salesman I was really a Yamaha guy but was now afraid of them because of the bad paint and hull delaminating problems. The sales man stoped and looked at me, stretched his neck back and ask what was referring to, that he hasn’t heard about any problems…. I instantly thought hmm… This guy is either clueless about his products or lying thru his teeth. Neither leaves a good feeling about that dealership. I wasn’t even pricing out Yamahas with him, I was looking at seadoo’s.

I can’t help but think the resistance to “admitting” issues is driven by compensation claims. To admit to a problem, means the manufacturer knows there is a defect, and then they “have” to take responsibility for the repairs. Not stating so, I agree, “Is chickenshit”. This condition is not limited to Yamaha or SeaDoo, but is across the board. Paint delaminating is an issue for Yamaha. For SeaDoo, the cracking of the ST3 hull in the same place is more than mere coincidence. There are other issues on all types that I am not listing ( Please, in the comment section, state what your issue may be.., ) This dance we consumers have to perform by contacting our insurance, only for them to state it is a manufacturer defect, and not pay. While at the same time having the manufacturer states ( said cracking ) it is caused by [ insert cause… jumping waves, bad roller on your trailer, hitting a coconut etc..] and not pay. Us consumers are left holding the bag so to say. Bravo to the WCJ ( Which is Kevin of course ) for broaching this subject.

Just a data point. Our 22 Jet Blaster with ~34 hours on it is just fine. And the entire hull has been launched entirely our of the water more than a couple times.

Everything will crack! No such thing as an uncrackable hull. Certainly at this price range. But, we all get it. Do we want to change our riding styles? The only real answer here is for the manufacturer to offer a reasonable “insurance “ for the hulls. The problem with that is the average “you” & I (myself) won’t buy that insurance (because for the amount of hours I ride per year it would not be feasible. Besides in the 40 plus years I have been riding. I have only damaged my hulls 4 times. Twice in the last twenty years. Neither of which was in any way serious enough to cause any leaking. One crack & one chipped. Both bothered me. But not the new owners. I discounted the skis in the sale significantly because of the “damage”. The last one a millennium edition Sea Doo. Was never repaired and still runs to this day having zero repercussions. Both were sold in almost new to excellent conditions. The previous skis were sold or given away and one still runs & is used periodically (an old Kawasaki stand up) (550). So maybe I was just lucky. Maybe I take better care of my units. But I really believe these manufacturers all put out a good product. Each has their pros & cons. That is just the way it is. Remember, anything that is mechanical, will fail at some point. For the price. We are absolutely getting our money’s worth.

I don't remember seadoo sayinf shit about the junk ass 951 di engines they made lol. My seadoo dealers wouldn't even work on them. They said they would loose money more than they would make on it.

I disagree about seadoo. I have 2021 GTR that was purchased brand new and they would not take care of all the cracks and chips in the surface on the deck of the ski. The ski function fine the cosmetically it looks like shit.
