Ken, very proficient description, just kindly introduce yourself and state your position at NSB at the beginning of the video. It’s nice to be reminded… always.

Hardest thing for me is deciding to keep or replace copper pipe. Service life can be 50+ years but when the wall is open… it’s so tempting to replace.

If drywall is not coming off in a remodel I put 5/4 x 6 nailers top and bottom for upper cabinets. You can shim the nailers to get them plumb and flat. Then when cabinets are up the one inch space at the bottom makes it easy to position rough electrical for under cabinet lights and under cabinet outlets -which is where always put the outlets to keep them out the tile back splash. I run the tile up into the space for a clean look. Con: On exposed end cabinets you need to put a finished end panel to cover the space.

Definitely gonna do blocking like that next time, not fun screwing through the back of a cabinet and hitting air... Once had a kitchen with a long run and a sag in the middle, had to split the difference. The toe kick was 3" on the outsides and 4 1/2" in the middle on a 14' span. Did a library, new construction, there was a 1" drop over 8', had to make an oversized shoe molding and the client was not happy with the contractor.

I’m a contractor in the UK, how does the inspection process / permit process work in the US?

Please put nail plates where the wires and pipes cross through a stud or blocking. Inexpensive insurance from a nail or screw knicking a wire or penetrating a pipe

I know this space is pretty small for a big crown, but blocking in the ceiling can help quite a bit with larger crown or when moldings are stacked up. You have one heck of a flooring guy, we'd have to take care of that ourselves.

Would it be possible to use something like aerobarrier in the vent hood?

Love admiring all of your good work! I was wondering what you guys use as edge banding for combo core paint grade cabinets? And what size of stock do you use for drawers? Thanks!

Is the blocking necessary considering the use of plywood? I wished all stick framed homes used 1/2 inch plywood on the interior. Would definitely eliminate the need for finding studs when hanging things.

!/2 plywood is not adequate to hold cabinets.

@@lrc87290 why? Cabinets themselves are made from 1/2 inch plywood.

@@alexanderjamieson7971 The head of a cabinet screw can't pull through the cabinet wood but the body of a cabinet screw can pull out of 1/2 plywood.

1/8 door skin, I've used something called drywall shims too. I haven't done a tremendous amount of it, but when I have got to do it it's been a definite time investment with, in my opinion, a worthy return.

What brand of pocket door hardware will you be using?

Knowing them it's likely HD PocketDoors, Hawa, or Sugatsune. I don't know what the client chose but I know Sugatsune does a high quality synchro soft close/open pocket door frame.

Dude are serious about the safe space thing? Is this how the new generation does things? I've probably done 15 total remodels with me and two guys. Insane stuff like moving stair cases from round staircase to stainless floating stairs. I couldn't even imagine explaining to my customer that I had to charge to create a safe space. Turn off the power or carry tester and make sure it's off. We do everything but also licensed to do everything.
