Villain: "I guess the fruit doesn't fall far from the tree after all." Me: "What do you mean?" Villain: *(tells me how the mayor's wife framed her for theft)* "Anyway, you'd better rescue the daughter this time or I'll kill the mayor's wife along with other innocents who are NOT media employees." Me: "Even if I did, the mayor knows better than to invite me to any social events. On the off-chance he wants to, however, then how is he going to know where to send the invitation?" Villain: "He will most likely hold a public announcement, and when he does you'd better accept it on-camera or else I'll add 200 more innocent bodies to the count." Me: "How are you going to know it's me and not some random Joe who picked up my dry-cleaning? Better yet, how's the event security going to know it's me and not said Joe with a forged ticket - or some guy who stole my ticket and costume?" Villain: "Uh...." Me: "Another thing. Your plan relies on me getting free, accepting an invitation to a ball on camera, and then bringing you to said ball. What's to stop me from tipping off the mayor about the assassination attempt in the interim? On the off-chance you get past the cops, I could just SWAP the mayor's wife with a decoy, and you'll never know until it's too late." Henchman: "You know, he has some valid points. I was afraid to say this before, but I'm not so sure how well your plan was thought through." Villain: "You know what, NEW PLAN. I assassinate the mayor's wife NOW, but I still kidnap the mayor's daughter and stick with the original plan after that?" Me: "Why? You would have already killed your target by then." Henchman: "Yeah." Villain: "For a date at the masquerade ball, that's why. And as long as you're here, let's take that stupid mask off." *(rips my mask off)* Me: "Like what you see?" Villain: "I have no idea who he is." Henchman: "He may be a nobody, but he did mention that he had a brother who the mayor's daughter framed for assault and who got slandered in the media. So, we find out the defendant's name, and then the defendant's relatives. Whoever is his brother is our guy." Me: *(nervous)* "I... don't have any brothers." Villain: "You know what, new deal. You go along with the NEW plan and not tell anybody about mine or my henchman's involvement especially afterwards. Otherwise, I'll kill dozens of people AND have your name leaked." Me: "I know you'll do research in the interim, so I'll throw in another deal to go with it. You leave the defendant and his family out of this, and I'll 'fail' to stop you the NEXT time you harm the mayor's daughter - but only if it's ONE DAY AFTER the masquerade ball OR LATER." Villain and Henchman: "DONE!"

This audio brings up one of my favorite superhero story issues for a hero. The literal can't save everyone. You could kill the villain and save the people ruining your own moral compass. You could stop the villain putting them away for them to inevitably escape and kill people or go through and save everyone but the wife dies. Excellent audio afterglow you do great work

Her scheme takes place over a period of least a few days, if not weeks, until the moment when she kills her target at a high-profile masquerade ball - where there's BOUND to be security everywhere. During that period between saving the daughter and going to the ball, what's to stop the hero from tipping off the cops about the assassination attempt on the mayor's wife? In fact, how is the villain so certain that the mayor would even send the hero an invitation to the masquerade ball in the first place? Even if he does, how will security know that it's the hero himself that enters the ball instead of some random Joe in a costume - along with a cosplaying girlfriend?

The hero can easily, as heroes always do for some reason break free of the restraints in some stupid way that probably wouldn't work. Beat up the villain, stop the ball before it happens in the case there are already bombs there, and then pick up an ice cream sandwich at the nearest grocery store. This happens every week
