One of my favorite Lewis compositions; I have many interpretations of it. I think you acquitted yourself very well, Geoff. Remember that when playing solo piano you don't have to play in tempo - it can often be very interesting to play something out of tempo; indeed that's one aspect of solo piano that I love so much - why don't you try it? Best wishes.

I love big jazz pianists like Oscar Peterson, or Art Tatum, but there is something to be said for nice, humble, quiet, inventive jazz renditions. I absolutely love your playing. Where did you start out (learning jazz that is)?
@geoffmobile10 жыл бұрын
Thank you Lorrie! I studied classical piano when I was young. I started learning jazz in Grade 9 highschool. But I really only started playing jazz piano in 1st year university, when I joined a jazz combo at the SFU Jazz Club. We got our first gig playing at a restaurant in 2003. At that time I started studying privately with Chris Sigerson for 2 years. After that I was mostly self-taught and also attended some summer jazz workshops with Ross Taggart, Tom Wakeling, Phil Dwyer, Sharon Minemoto, Brad Turner ,and several other inspiring jazz musicians.

Nice -- I've been playing this for years, but your version is much nicer. What a nice style you've got! You've given me a lot of ideas for things to try in my own playing.

Great rendition of the song! I just started out playing Jazz. I've been playing classical for a long time and have been finding jazz a lil bit intimidating but after listening to your version of Afternoon in Paris, it's sounds so clear and nice. 😊

My hat goes off to you Geoff. I like how you keep the left hand out of the middle register so that your right hand can play like a tenor sax or perhaps the lower register of a trumpet. Oh, and the tempo is lovely. I find that playing relaxed can be harder than playing fast. Does that make sense? It's also nice to hear you talk and convey your zeal for this music to the audience.
