I remember as a little boy riding with my Daddy from the "Bimini section" the farm community of Flagler Co. to Hasting, Fla. on the old Dixie Hwy. It was in rough condition in the early 60's.

Hannah that's terrific! What did you think of it? Pretty neat to get to witness remnants of this #FloridaHistory in real time.

@@MOASDaytona I wasn’t prepared for how long the road was! I was surprised at how well the bricks have held up too. I’m a 5th generation Floridian, so I couldn’t help but wonder if any of my relatives traveled on it while the road was active.

Well done documentary, The late Otis Hunter of Espanola knew a lot about the history of that area and Old Dixie Hwy. He lived right off of that road.

Pretty cool info! I'd searched out & rode portions of The Dixie in Ohio & Kentucky. It pretty much follows the path of today's I 75 in those 2 states using different roads south. You just have to know where to look. Thanks!

I did a video on this a few months ago, and gave you a shout out for having the best rundown of its history.

It was sad when all those big trucks working in the area destroyed a lot of it about 15 to twenty years ago! Really enjoyed this was so amazed to actually drive that , it is bumpy and I went very slow in a cutlass, not realizing it went all the way to Charlie T’s! Pretty amazing! I’m always thinking about the people who built things in history! The things they learned what they ate! What useful things they carried in their pockets! How did they wind up in the place they were! Working in underground utilities in st Augustine, one of the archeologists that usually has to be there was telling me the history of these uniformly cut pieces of round palm tree about 6 or 7 inches tall that they’ve found hundreds of over the years that were used to make roads and walkways!

That's cool! They were using what they had. Kentucky's early wooden roads were called 'post roads'. They laid entire posts side by side. The large round disks may have actually worked better. But they both sound brutal. 😂😂

Now I know where those bricks came from! I found a few of them in a lot I was removing trash from by US-1 in Florida City. Good thing I saved them!

Loughman, Fl you can see areas of brick road which looks like once asphalt was paved over but it has wore off exposing the bricks. Looks cool. I know Kissimmee has brick roads but they look more recent.

What about State Highway 1 that runs east of Milton Florida, that parallels highway 90. It is a well preserved very early brick road. I thought it was created to link the Mobile-Pensacola area with Jacksonville.

The original US 1 brick road still exists parallel to modern hwy 90 from the Blackwater river and Milton, Fl. north of Pensacola, east for over 5 miles. Built in 1911. It is very cool and in great condition. Much bigger and better condition than this road. There are still houses and driveways on the west end and people still use it.
