Aftersun is my favorite movie of this year! Rarely have I had the feeling of seeing much of my childhood again and was all the more emotionally receptive at the end of the film. Tore me up inside and made me cry, great movie!

I just saw it on cable and I so agree with you. This film has seeped into my bones. What a precious performance by Paul. Callum as a father is just such a loving presence. I could not get enough of him. I didn't want him to go away. We need more people like him in the world.

The fact that the incredible Barry Jenkins is working with a lovely new talent like Wells is sheer perfection. He will guide her in just the right way. Love it.

Academy, how dare you to not giving Wells her deserved Best Director nomination?! Shame on you, people.

@David LaMan Dude, she literally made the best scene of 2022 (the famous Under Pressure rave scene at the last part of the film). Paul Mescal was nominated for his leading role in this "little film from England". Don't say she doesn't deserved a nomination.

For some reason, it's not a big Academy favourite. I thought it was because it had no American actors, but then Banshees Of Inisherin is in the running. I don't know, I suppose it just got too small a release

am i the only one that got tarkovsky's solaris with the mud pool swirling shots and sky shots?
I wanted to know more about her relationship with her father in the present? Is he alive? Are they on good terms? Wish the movie gave us a tiny bit more.

I think many, including I, have interpreted that he killed himself at some point since dropping her off at the airport and that’s the last time they saw each other which is what makes the whole trip so much more important. The final shot is what strongly implies this

That there is still market for independent, thought provoking cinema. Perhaps at times he feels the demand for 'low brow' superhero flicks will outweigh that of avant garde cinema. He seems pleasantly surprised that there is still a market for bold projects that don't appeal to everyone.

What strangely disappointing responses from the producers. It’s as if they haven’t watched the film. Very surprised.
