Great content, the diagrams are very informative. The geology of that area is wild!

Both my Son who is seven, and I just finished watching your video. He would like to say, "I think it looks cool that you found those rocks. I hope I find them too one day." He wants to be a geologist. We subscribed and plan on watching some more videos in the future sometime. Thank you for the well edited and notated video. We both learned quite a bit. He learned what the names were for the rocks such as, Red Jasper, Quartz, and the calcite crystal!

Thank you so much for your comment and interest. The secret to finding good minerals and crystals in Afton canyon is a go into the back country and stay off the jeep trail and the hiking trails. Those areas of already been picked over. Afton Canyon is always been my most productive mineral Collecting area. Happy hunting, Joe

Question . Anyway you could help me source the area you found the blue quartz ? We go off-roading in Afton canyon all the time and would like to go hunt for some gems

Rockstar, I found the blue quartz in the backcountry above the box canyon in Pyramid Canyon. I only found one blue quartz agate, and initially looked dull. However, the blue really comes out with either polishing or just spraying water on the agate. There is a video somewhere on KZbin that I have seen that is only on the blue agate of Afton Canyon. I tried to find it for you, but ran out of time for this reply. Thanks for you comment. Joe

Wow amazing video. Very impressive. Has that place been picked clean? I'm sure its a beautiful hike but is rockhounding still possible out there?

There are still a lot of minerals laying on the ground; however, the key is to stay off the paths and jeep trails, because those areas have been picked over. I usually go about 5 miles in and stay off the trails. Another key is to always have your eyes on the ground looking for minerals and fossils no matter how tired and boring it becomes. Some of my best minerals have been found at the very end of the day when I was most tired and exhausted. Good hunting, and should you find anything, post your pictures in the comments below!

What are the chances of running into some type of predator?

I generally feel safer out in the field dealing with animals as opposed to human predators. Thank you for comment and interest in the video, Joe
